I met these street musicians in an alley near the large central square, the Rynek, in the old part of Wrocław, southwestern Poland. They were walking fast, clearly in a hurry for their next performance. Registering the photo opportunity and taking the picture was a matter of very few seconds. I think I captured them quite well placed in relation to the background, but that was entirely a case of luck.
Some of you may not like the graffiti. Neither do I really, but I can't deny that sometimes graffiti gives a kind of rhythm and vividness to a dead wall, at least in photos. I hate the graffiti that has been scribbled on the wall of the fine old house where I live.
In a workshop you can see at least one of these musicians after they had joined their band and started to play. That photo was taken less than a minute later.
Here is a larger version.

Hello dear Gert,
Interesting street scenery with those two street musicians in front of this Wall filled with graffitis.
TFS and have a nice weekend

Are these guys walking, playing or both at the same time? Sometimes it is a pity that pictures are without sound.
rbassin (19201) 2014-08-09 6:00
Une bonne photo sur ces musicien de rues, la façade avec les graffitis crée un bon fond de couleurs.

very colorful photo and beautiful colors too. the background is so nice with full graffiti and the placing of the duo is very good, thanks to your subtle timing.

Un beau moment de la vie quotidienne pour ces deux musiciens de rues avec un arrière plan qui parle. Une belle conversation entre les deux et un bel arrière plan.

it looks like they had started playing on their way to reach the rest of the band:) They are very nicely placed while hurrying along, they complete and enliven the setting with their interesting presence, dynamism and interaction. The colours are lovely and create a warm atmosphere. The urban messages in the background look vibrant, they have a life of their own. The workshop picture looks simple but encloses so many aspects of modern urban life. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

Traveling musicians has been around since the early history mankind and I hope will continue in the future. Some are good while others not but music is the language of the soul. Nice capture of those two, too bad about the graffiti though. Well done, tfs.

Hi Gert dear
Very nice shot of the two street musicians. Exposure clarity and well performed. Graffiti background for love. Thanks for sharing
abmdsudi (44968) 2014-08-09 7:45
Great candid, each has diff thoughts and in a hurry to move on but they looked a jolly bunch though. This must be a very happy place and vibrant colours have come out great. Graffiti an artwork! but good enough to draw attention too to turn this looks attractive complementing the main subject. Great find timely snapped. Congrats
photographer_sg (4410) 2014-08-09 7:54
A picture full of spontaneity and liveliness. The postures of these street performers convey a nice sense of movement and the background wall with the colourful graffiti (i like it in this picture) provides a beautiful backdrop for this lovely street shot. The workshop picture is great too.
Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

Interesting shot from street.
Good moment, good light and super colors.
I like this daily life.

Nice to see a photo from my city, there are many guests from different countries in Wrocław, I like the scene with two musicians but I hate this smearing on the wall, I like true murals and hate such a wild vandalism,
mohammad_H (9594) 2014-08-09 22:41
Street music, songs soul-catching, with the hands and fingers on the guitar
Beautiful look to everyday life
Have a nice day
emka (82758) 2014-08-09 23:02
Hello Gert, How I hate such vandal graffiti! Here also the windows are painted. When there is some art in them, OK, specially when the wall is old and dull, but not the senseless scribbles like here.
Well caught these musicians going fast in just the right place between windows. I like specially the guy in pink jacket moving with his back to the wall. Very funny. They are probably gypsies.
Warm regrads Malgo
CLODO (31206) 2014-08-10 1:55
I don't feel it was a case of luck: as a street photographer, you analyse quickly the scene, and shot instantly after framing in the good manner (let place in front of them). I like the look the first man has on his collegue, seeming to ask him to speed up. The grafittis in the back are alas part of the city life.
have a lovely sunday
annjackman (20391) 2014-08-10 4:51
I agree that the graffiti can add some vibrancy to a wall that might otherwise be very uninteresting. Here is a perfect example where it seems to add to the story of the musicians. Even the red soles of one of the musicians matches the red lettering on the wall!
A super image.
Kind Regards, Ann
marabu61 (9081) 2014-08-10 6:32
There is definitely a positive vibe among these two musicians. A pity though for the horrible tags on the house in the background. These kind of hooliganism forms unfortunately a part of any european city these days. And in contrast to some of the other commenters here, I don't like the messy wall at all.
hejdå och trevlig helg
jcpix (13724) 2014-08-10 9:15
This is a fun one! Not only is it a wonderfully candid shot of these two musicians, but you couldn't ask for a more "lively" background to play right into the hands of that musical vibe going on here. The graffiti itself is unattractive, but is perfectly suited for this moment.
Your intuition and quick reaction to get this shot has conveyed an upbeat spirit for an otherwise quiet street scene. This is rhythm in motion, and quite literally too...you caught these two in perfect stride. :) Enjoy the new week. Take good care.
williewhistler (15059) 2014-08-10 11:01
the hurrying musicians are ever so well placed against the graffiti wall giving lots of interest and drama to the scene.
It`s just the kind of photograph that I would associate with the chosen European Capital of Culture for 2016!
Warm regards Les.
worldcitizen (7325) 2014-08-10 13:42
Nice capture of these musicians on their way to play some tunes. I don't mind graffiti if it matches the character of the neighborhood, and in this scene it adds extra splashes of color to the already colorful wall. If people are simply defacing a clean residential building, then I don't agree with it. I don't know if that's the case in this particular location. It's a nice daily life scene anyway.
Royaldevon (31927) 2014-08-11 1:38
I like your w/s for the sense of the occasion but I love this one for its very impromptu style. It is full of vitality and, as you note, the wall though 'paint polluted' really does add to the whole artistic sense of the moment. This one really works!
Have a lovely day,
kasianowak (7321) 2014-08-11 5:46
It may be just luck but I wish I had that kind of luck when photographing moving people. They are perfectly placed in relation to the background and each other, their legs' position shows they are walking, even the expressions on their faces are so well captured.
Yes, I definitely wouldn't like this sort of graffiti on my house. But, as you say, it does look great in the image.
serp2000 (41404) 2014-08-11 6:11
I like both photos and this typical scene for the streets of the cities (as graffiti too) everywhere in the world. Easy way to make money ;) But I am not a musician.
Another amazing report from Poland. TFS!
Best wishes from rainy Ural,

Deux beau portrait et scène de ces musiciens des rues, un fond colorée de la façade remplie de graffitis, l'effet dynamique et l'ambiance qui ressort de cette image me plait beaucoup
SnapRJW (31623) 2014-08-11 10:00
Hello Gert - The colours of the graffitied wall add a vitality to this shot which is quite in keeping with the hurrying musicians. A well spotted street scene .... you have fast reactions!
Gerrit (50756) 2014-08-11 11:14
They sure look ready for it.
nikkitta (15824) 2014-08-11 12:59
I love urban art, so added it at the theme Graffiti, hope you don t mind, quite agree with you about them, must be on abandoned places, not ruining good walls
Here the subject are the walking musicians that do it at the same rhythm, well placed in front of the between the old windows..and graffiti
Good work, regards
batalay (36157) 2014-08-11 15:43
You did capture the pair of musicians as if you had choreographed them. The graffiti adds a certain dynamism to the image, although I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments about graffiti in general. I enjoyed reading the note in Gunnar's last post about the land of your paternal grandfather.
macjake (59006) 2014-08-11 17:56
two totally different guys here.
one in runners (sneakers) and t-shirt, one in classy shoes and a blazer.
and personally i like graffiti if it isn't TOO intrusive or in the middle of the downtown core where the 'nice' buildings are located.
but you're right, graffiti does have its place.
fun shot 'on the go' sort of speak, turned out pretty well.
see you around!
willperrett (7688) 2014-08-12 1:05
A fine street grab-shot. I'm with you on graffiti: it helps photograph and spoils architecture. The guitars, especially the one on the left, look like the guitar played by Django Reinhardt: I wonder if they played jazz?
jhm (142085) 2014-08-12 4:56
They are very nicely placed while hurrying along, they complete and enliven the setting with their interesting presence, dynamism and interaction.
Nice sharp and attractive.
Excellent captured and lovely presentation
Very well done, TFS.

Hello Gert. A photo to my liking. Music plays a large role inPolen. The two musicians are perfectly photographed in front of graffiti art. I like the photo. Best rgds, Wolfgang.
adores (39286) 2014-08-16 13:57
You're right, these graffiti are really terrible but they give a lot of life to the place and make the composition much better. You captured the two musicians really well - seems they were in such a hurry they didn't even notice you. A good daily scene!
siudzi (34119) 2014-08-17 9:54
I hope you had a nice time in Wroclaw. I like this city a lot due to its amazing old town architecture and its unique mood.
These two street musicians look so friendly. They made the scene very well -- we can almost hear their gipsy music. Unfortunately, the background is so ugly in my opinion... Anyway, great post!
imageme (1790) 2014-08-17 10:03
Hi Gert, I like this one very much....for me the graffiti and the music are one piece of art.....cannot live without one and the other. This street scene of yours proves it all. Beautiful street art in the BG and the two guitarists look very much into their music. Amazing message of freedom of art in the street settings.
Great light and colors too. Regards
fabbs99 (16803) 2014-08-26 13:51
This is a great street shot in colors. The guitarists have a big presence in the frame.I love the colors of the graffiti on the wall.Crisp image with nice colors.TFS.

The 'spirit' of artistic souls is beautifully represented by those sidewalk troubadours and, of course, by the bold graffiti painted on walls of this casual scenery!
Quite spirited, indeed!
