Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island) is the oldest part of the city of Wrocław in Lower Silesia. It was formerly an island between branches of the Oder River.
Archaeological excavations have shown that Cathedral Island was the first to be inhabited. The first, wooden church (St. Martin), dating from the 9th century, was surrounded by defensive walls built on the banks of the river. The first building from solid material was St. Martin's chapel, built probably at the beginning of the eleventh century by Benedictine monks. Not long after the first cathedral was raised, in place of the small church.
In the photo you can see the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the Bishops Palace. The Cathedral after the end of the Mongol invasion was largely rebuilt (1244) in the present-day Brick Gothic style.

Très bonne photo de Ostrów Tumski et de la cathédrale dont les tours se détachent bien sur ce joli ciel.

this place looks amazing, what a stunning setting for a cathedral. The twin spires look so beautiful and how refreshing that it is not surrounded by modern spires to dwarf its majesty and impact. A delight!
Have a peaceful Sunday - B.

Ładnie prezentuje się wyspa wiosną, choć pewnie kolorystyka jesienna z mgiełkami tworzy tam niepowtarzalny klimat.
Wiosenne nasycenie kolorow jest bardzo miłe dla oka.

byla katedra z bliska pokazujaca piekne detale architektury a teraz ujecie z daleka pokazujace kontekst i urocze polozenie katedry. Piekny dzien, wszystko doskonale oswietlone i nawet chmury ulozyly sie jak nalezy pieknie dekorujac scene.
