Cathedral of Assumpion of St. Mary
Kościelna Street 2
At first, the marshall of Big Lithuanian Dutchy Piotr Wiesiołowski, founded a wooden chapel in 1581. Then, in 1617 it became brick. It was in use till XIX c., but it showed it was obviously too small for developing city. In 1900-5 architect Józef Pius Dziekoński designed a new church. Since 1985 it's been a Basilica Minor, due to John Paul II. Inside, there's a grave of Branicki family, rich people wholived in a big palace near the church. It's almost a copy of st. Florian cathedral in Warsaw, made by the same architect.

Hi Jan,
I haven't visited this city yet but perhaps next time. This church look very pretty. I really like old churches because of their design and details. Your image is also well framed. Colours and details standout nicely and the clarity is excellent. Thanks Jan :-)
