I saw this woman sitting on a bench in the Old town of Warsaw and snapped a photo. She was seated in such a nice place and I was also attracted by the way her clothes relatively well matched the wall behind her.
Taking this photo was a matter of seconds before somebody would step in front of the camera, as this was a very busy place. It was only afterwards that I registered that she was actually reading and had found a perfect location outside the Museum of Literature, dedicated to the Polish "national poet", Adam Mickiewicz (1798-1855). I get a strong feeling that she wasn't reading his most famous work, the epic poem Pan Tadeusz, but at least she was reading, not tweeting.
The museum deals with all kinds of literature, not just the work of Mickiewicz. That very day a new exhibition had opened, which according to the poster in the window would offer a "British treasure island picnic for children" (if the Google translation is to be trusted).
Here is a larger version.

Your photos from Poland remind me the Wolfgang's posts (wolf38). Similar amazing street scenes from daily life, very clever captures of people with the posters on the background. Good idea for pub, we can mark a visit to museum some later. ;)

En snygg och välkomponerad bild med en enhetlig färgskala. Påminner lite om en bild jag tog i Paris i höstas. Fina detaljer i bakgrunden.

nice the snapshot with the woman to sit on the bench reading her magazine. The poster behind her covering the entrance makes the scene even more effective.A good daily scene in the streets of the town.

Hello Gert. A photo from the midst of daily life. Good description. Yes, for photographers, there is so much to see.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

This is a very pleasant street shot with the lady engrossed in what looks like a magazine. While her red dress - as you write - matches the wall colour, it is also in fine contrast with the b/w poster at the arched window. The three sculpted faces on the stone blocks make an engaging detail and she would probably walk into the pub after she's done with the reading :).
Thanks a lot for your comments and advice on my photos. Any suggestions on which editing software to use? I have only used picassa so far.

Hello Gert - There is so much to like about this shot. The coordinated colour of wall and T-shirt is serendipity at its best and the B&W poster illustrates another relaxed figure, albeit in different circumstances but both are reading. And then we have the building with so many attractive decorative details.
A super shot in all respects.

What a pleasant surprise to see someone reading a 'hard copy' rather than a digital contraption!
This is a shot that you would have had trouble constructing! The colour match is amazing and the whole setting is most attractive in terms of features and textures.
My warm regards,
williewhistler (15033) 2014-08-19 9:03
a simple street scene that has so much to view and enjoy, the two ladies engrossed in their books are nicely placed in the frame whilst the complementary colours of the wall and the ladies top work very well.
Warm regards Les.
ourania (34513) 2014-08-19 9:35
this is a very fine composition showing both a relaxing daily life scene and a great deal of information on Warsaw. The colours are pleasing and harmonious and, along with your wise cropping, have helped the rich display of details look so neat. I also like very much the juxtaposition of the two ladies reading as well as the juxtaposition of the two signs on the right. The open door expands the story in an intriguing way. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

An interesting note about this place and also about Adam Mickiewicz. And a fine photograph to accompany it - nice to see someone young reading and not staring at and texting on a mobile 'phone for a change.
Your photograph is very well composed considering the fact that you had to shoot fast to avoid passers-by and I like how the woman is so nicely framed by the archway. The large poster behind her adds interest as also do the "Muzeum" plaque and the "Pub" sign and decending stairway to our right.
The lady's immediate monochrome background and the rather sombre colour of the rest of the building make the woman's red clothing and bright blue shoes stand out beautifully; your exposure is perfect and the details and sharpness are exquisite.

You literally hunt for such characteristic street scene with a double understanding, excellent photo to think
carlo62 (36213) 2014-08-19 12:03
bella composizione, mi colpisce molto il colore della facciata a destra e quello del vestito della donna.
Molti i dettagli da osservare in questa foto di ottima qualitā.

very pleasant street shot with the lady.Well, you mentioned about Mickiewicz - thank you.
Excellent photo from street.

I understand so well your note, seeing a good scene and waiting both for people not to catch the subject and this to continue going what call your attention
Must be frustrating and also a success as happens here with same color clothes and wall

une excellente capture, bonne harmonie des couleurs.

This is undoubtedly your style, and I love it! A relatively simple scene, and as you've pointed out previously, I too enjoy the unassuming character of a "run of the mill," every day moment. Her shirt is a perfect match with the wall, but it's a couple of smaller elements that grab my attention. The turquoise color of her shoes, and the touch of neon green "PUB" lighting are the perfect accents...not to mention a black & white backdrop for delightful contrast to the entire setting....or should I say, sitting. :) enjoy the new day. take care.
berek (41131) 2014-08-19 21:45
nice and funny picture. i like idea and result. well framed.
abmdsudi (44966) 2014-08-20 9:09
The many facets of life as people go about the day! This is an interesting street scene. On the one hand, you get to admire the classic beautiful building and the poster at the same time. On the other hand, you really need a good sense of focus to enjoy the eye popping fig, each one considering how they're placed. I love the pleasant clarity and the matching colour. A delightful image well taken and good observation. Congrats.
willperrett (7682) 2014-08-20 9:34
What drew me to this photograph was the disjuncture between the colour, and the black and white Aubrey Beardsleyesque, Art Nouveau-ish poster. That and the fact that there's a pub next door! Good street grab-shot (by coincidence, my latest post is from the streets too: great minds, etc.).
COSTANTINO (57971) 2014-08-20 10:00
Hello my dear friend

relativly well matched with the wall

you a good daily scenery in the
streets of the city

swapankumarroy (2847) 2014-08-20 11:16
It is a nice view, the lady with orange colored cloths and reading books at the side of a busy street and you captured her very nicely. Here it is significant that color of cloths and the background were almost same. Clarity, color and POV all are well maintained.
with deep regards,
eldancer1 (30076) 2014-08-20 14:04
Looks like she is reading a brochure or a magazine, regardless this is a nice capture of the daily life. I like the art work behind her. Good placement of the subject on the frame and good details. Well done, tfs.

Hi Gert dear
A beauty shot of a young woman in the study. Good composition with graffiti. Exposure and attractive colors. Thank you.
emka (82678) 2014-08-21 0:19
Hello Gert, Fantastic composition, everything fits so well. You were very lucky to spot this nice girl with matching colour of the shirt and backpack.
It is British Treasure Island. Literary picnic for children. Google was noot bad, but this literary is important here.
I like it very much. Yesterday I was a guide with Chris. This time I chose the route with Jewish monuments and we went also to Warsaw Uprising Museum. I didn't planned to go but with a guest it was OK. Now I'm taking my husband for a week lazy holidays in the north of Poland. Probably will be without Internet. And I have some work to do :(. (so in fact I hope this will not be so lazy)

kasianowak (7321) 2014-08-21 3:45
Very well observed and captured street scene. I like the contrast between the vibrant "salmon" colour of the wall and the girl's top and the monochromatic poster.
I agree with your judgement -Pan Tadeusz it isn't, and your sentiment (am I right?) for spending time with books as opposed to social networking sites. :-)
macjake (58956) 2014-08-21 4:31
yes, why or how does it happen so often that if you just simply wait...somebody WILL come along wearing the same colors as the subject behind them...
its uncanny how often it happens!
another example of that are mannequins in a store...if you just park yourself across the street...just wait...somebody will stand beside or infront of the mannequin store window in the exact same pose lol
its a simple little thing, but that large arch - i can't think of many buildings in Vancouver that have such an arch. yet in old town Warsaw these are common.
fun photo as always.
surprised you didn't mention the 3 heads/faces on the bench!
trevormoffiet (3112) 2014-08-21 6:36

Hi Gert,i don't now what say about your pic, your note are so perfect that is difficult to me to find something to write..ehee..a very nice and interesting work about this museum, and a beautiful pic too, with the woman like the cherry on the cake, and the colors are similar..ehehe...have a nice day and thanks,Luciano
alvaraalto (6177) 2014-08-22 13:23
A very appealing picture with a very good note.
This is one of these picture that invites you to fantasise what you do see exactly. I think she is reading a magazine. Maybe about fashion but I could be also a cultural one.
PaulVDV (23417) 2014-08-23 6:53
I was also attracted by the advertising poster on the gate in combination with the young woman on the bench.
Her red shirt contrasts with the black & white poster but matches the wall excellently.
That bench looks fairly monumental with the three sculpted heads.
Interesting architecture and street scene.
Best regards, Paul

This lady is like a chameleon, blending into her habitat. I love the orange tones and the superb depth and clarity. You captured an excellent decisive moment, and you did so with a quality photo.
annjackman (20385) 2014-09-01 4:58
Your clever eye saw a great opportunity here. I agree that the colour match is an important element. I also like the way that b/w poster is behind her so that she stands out from the BG. Excellent street photography.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Gert, Perfect timing, perfect clothes for the wall and perfect POV that shows how concentrate the woman in study not only that, I see the PUB sign on the top of the entrance. It is a mixture of two different Arts on the same building.....Museum and PUB. Excellent details and sharpness. Regards
Angshu (56406) 2014-09-04 0:34
The BG poster is very interesting, more interesting to me than the subject...but without your subject, this would hardly be a picture! She seems to be reading with interest what appears as a graphical book.
Another very interesting thing is the almost identical colour of her shirt and the wall...'serendipity'? Known as one of the most difficult English words to translate, serendipity means the accident of finding something good without looking for it....and here you have found it!!
daddo (25146) 2014-12-31 15:01
Hi Gert. One of the more peaceful images I found in your recent array of photos, one that was taken away from the maddening crowd. British picnic,a book,a pub and a secluded bench- a nice combination with which to wish you a healthy and prosperous new year. Regards. Klaudio. PS If we cannot trust Google Translator, whom can we trust. it is a laugh sometimes.
