I took this photo on the crossroads of Celna and Jezuicka Streets at the Old Town in Warsaw during an evening walking.
( see: Google street view )
Warsaw's Old Town (Polish: Stare Miasto, colloquially: Starówka) is the oldest historic district of the city. The heart of the area is the Old Town Market Place, with its restaurants, cafés and shops. Surrounding streets feature medieval architecture such as the city walls, the Barbican and St. John's Cathedral.
Warsaw's Old Town was established in the 13th century. Initially surrounded by an earthwork rampart, prior to 1339 it was fortified with brick city walls. The town originally grew up around the castle of the Dukes of Mazovia that later became the Royal Castle. The Market Square (Rynek Starego Miasta) was laid out sometime in the late 13th or early 14th century, along the main road linking the castle with the New Town to the north.
During the Invasion of Poland (1939), much of the district was badly damaged by the German Luftwaffe, which targeted the city's residential areas and historic landmarks in a campaign of terror bombing. Following the Siege of Warsaw, parts of the Old Town were rebuilt, but immediately after the Warsaw Uprising (August-October 1944) what had been left standing was systematically blown up by the German Army. A statue commemorating the Uprising, "the Little Insurgent," now stands on the Old Town's medieval city wall. [ Full information see Wikipedia ]

this shot has a real air of mystery about it. That is because of your wonderful POV and the way you have managed the light. So original, effective and strangely magical. Execution and creativity here are perfect and I love it! Well done!
Have a good week - Brian.

Wonderful to see how this area has recovered following the atrocities of the Second World War. I like your composition very much, so full of atmosphere and with lovely colour contrasts. Ideally exposed and with superb colours and clarity.

words cannot even begin to describe what it must have been like with the bombings and German invasion of Poland, it's unthinkable.....
what i do know from personal experience is how it feels to walk these streets, and I'd go back to Warsaw in a heartbeat! This was my favorite part of the city for sure. And yes, it can be a little bit touristy and such, but the streets and architecture are so charming its easy to get past that.
sweet lighting, with a peek down the streets. I'd love to be able to walk through one of those homes here! I have no idea how they look inside.
thanks for this post as it brings back fond memories.

Belle prise a heure bleu, l'angle du bâtiment, les reflets du ciel dans les vitres, les détails du coté de la façade me plait beaucoup, comme les teintes chaudes et froides, très belle présentation
Une très belle soirée

Hi, Les (but it reminds me the famous Les Paul guitar ;))
I saw this your photo in my work computer, but I did not have a time for a comment.
Very simple composition but excellent exposure. Perfect sharpness and very nice evening colors! TFS!

The warm street light is contrasted with cool blue sky beautifully. From your note, now I know that Warsaw's Old Town has a long and bloody history. Fortunately, look at your picture, it's peaceful and wonderful.

This combination of blue hour light and golden tones is a treat for the eyes. :) Even more so than that is the quiet, calm atmosphere that has been conveyed here...with what looks like a hint of activity in the distance. I really like the vibe of this shot, I can virtually hear faint footsteps not too far off, leading the mind to anticipate what, or who is coming my way. :) Very well composed for maximum exposure and appeal. Thanks for sharing the simple beauty of this street corner. Have a great day ahead.
All the best,

Swietnie wypatrzony motyw oraz zrealizowany kadr podczas blue hour. Światło oraz super nasycenie kolorów dały znakomity efekt wizualny. Piękna praca! Bardzo mi się podoba.
