Photographer's Note
I'm fully aware that this is a total postcard photo, and some people are not big fans of such photography, but I just can't help it.
This was one of my favorite places in Poland, I truly loved it here. This is the area where I met Malgo, Serghei and his Wife.
I stayed at the "Castle Inn", the building pictured here on the far right of the frame for 4 nights. I highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Warsaw, the location is A+.
As always, I'm up out of bed super early to catch the morning light and to feel the atmosphere of empty city life...i love that :)
Here, there are few people walking about, going to work early in the morning. The photo is captured in HDR.
Hope you like it
Cheers

Hello Craig,
The diversity of colourful facades makes this part of the old town looking so beautiful!
It's like a dream to be able to stay for the night in one of these houses. When I visited Poland in 2008 I also stayed in the Castle Inn. But by coincidence I saw recently that the prices of their rooms have gone up seriously since then.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Craig,
I immediately checked the price for a room at the Castle Inn. A bit on the expensive side (compared to Albania or Bulgaria), but it sounded good. Of course there were very few rooms available at any given moment (including February next year). There is something fishy about internet bookings ;-).
But judging from this picture the location is really attractive. You used the built-in diagonals of the large empty foreground very well and were blessed with a great light.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Craig,
I like postcards! And I really like this one - not because you present my city but due to the beauty of your image. The colorful building and morning atmosphere were presented very well with superb quality and composition . Great work! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Craig,
Nothing wrong with this being a postcard shot, I'd say you've done it proud! I've never understood what some people would have against a "picture postcard." There's nothing that says you can't shoot an often covered subject or choose a composition like this, it doesn't take away from the scenic beauty. When did it become so offense to a photographer for anyone to compliment a picture in that manner? Frankly, I find a lot of those kinds of people to be quite full of themselves.
This is a great shot, I love the bold colors and that early morning light that just seems to give that peaceful sentiment to the setting. It's a very nice panoramic look at the square and architecture of the city. Fine job on the HDR, once again keeping everything realistic...and with no ghosts. :) Have a good evening.
Best wishes,
Jason

Moi, j'aime bien les bonnes cartes postales! J'aime beaucoup les couleurs et les décorations de ces façades que l'on retrouve dans d'autres villes polonaises. Jolie présentation de cette belle place....et merci pour l'adresse!

Hi Craig
OK it is postcardy but an excellent one and I like postcards anyway. A great POV with lines that open up the view perfectly and the light is subtle but flattering. Immaculate detail and superbly controlled post processing. Excellent!
Have a great weekend - Regards Brian.
PS Forums still a problem for me, so I will comment on your critic of my old cabin cruiser here. The windows are not frosted but covered with a dusting of snow! I did smile when I read your critique.
This forums business is a pain as I know a few people have posted items/responses to me there, but the last time I ignored my virus checker - I got infected!!
All the best Craig. B.

Hello Craig,
One of the best aspects of travelling is to meet different nationalities and experience their way of life through buildings and routines. As an early riser you were obviously able to get a great 'feel' for the location, uncluttered by vehicles or crowds.
You have achieved a really nice, clear atmosphere. There is a very 'spick and span' feeling, a place of which the inhabitants are rightly proud. The houses are cheerful, the square unlittered, floweres adorn the al fresco areas, in fact, the floor tiles look as if they have been polished!
Your pov works well to invite the viewers into these details, which are sharp and engaging.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi Craig,
picture, that makes I miss my hometown even more. When I was living in Warsaw I did not visit old town very often(ok.I studied in a school located in the Podwale street just on the left from this place, but somehow I never really dip into the old town itself:(Now I can only blame myself.
And concerning the picture itself-it´s maybe a postcard view, but really successful one.HDR suits excellently this scene(especially the cobblestone look great, but it helps also to present the sky not only as a completely white area).
Best regards
Krzysztof

Hi Craig,
After seeing your work in HDR I am becoming a big fan of it! Well, admittedly,, I haven't even heard of it before I saw your photos here and read your notes, if you don't count the HDR processing in photo editing programs:)
The well-saturated pleasant colors of these nice buildings really stand out, and again this photo has a feeling of presence there, being so real, and with great depth and clarity.
Tfs.

Ciao Craig
I like the different contrasting colors of the buildings facades. The people add life and scale to the city buildings. Good sharpness and saturation. Well composed using the rule of thirds with the grey area nicely positioned on the 1/3 axis. Tfs!

Hi Craig.
Very nice comp. and exposure for this typical eastern European square, with its nicely repainted (since the velvet revolution in 1989-90) buildings. I'll bet they were grimy 30 years ago! The slightly elongated crop works well for the wide-angle shot, and the cobbled surface and row of bollards create space, depth and perspective. There's a reason why some postcards look great, so there's nothing essentially wrong with that type of shot. Looks like a great place to stay, that inn.

Andrew

Hi Craig,
best location ever. I would consider this hotel when I ever get to Warsaw again :) And I truly hope to make it to one of the TE-meetings with emka.
I like very much the colorful townhouses, I like the postcard shots as you know however here to make it a perfect postcard I would consider correcting the perspective :)
Great reportage from my home country capital,

Missed this beautiful Warsaw shot the first time around, Craig. The colors on the buildings are wonderful and soft, and in contrast with the shadowed square seem aglow! Nice long view showing us the full plaza as well. Hope to see another one from you soon!

Hi Craig
It's weird knowing that you're in Iceland and seeing you post a photo from Poland, ahh the jetset, I dunno! Anyway, a beautiful photo of this characteristic and historic piazza. Is there a slight tilt to this photo, or is it just an incline? I know how anally retentive you are about these things, so guess it must be on an incline.
Cheers

Hello Craig,
I am originally from Wroclaw, so naturally it was always closer for me to spend my weekends in Krakow or Prague than in Warsaw, but these few visits there left me with very good memories. Your picture is very pretty in terms of composition and colors. Well given sharpness finishes off the photo.
Thanks for sharing
