Nowica (additional name in the Lemko language; Нoвиця) - a village in Poland located in the Malopolska province, in the district of Gorlice, in the municipality of Ústí Gorlickie.
Lemko name appeared relatively late. She was the nature of nicknames. Word, Lem was the Highlanders used Beskid happy. Locals sometimes called Lemko denote their peers from Slovakia. Indeed talking about the Rusnak. Over time, the name of Lemko and they Highlanders took the began to consider it as their own. The local population had a strong sense of individuality and, indeed, very different from its neighbors and the Polish and Ruthenian. Long preserved the old customs and above all, a distinct language.
Lemkos lived and part of the Low Beskids and Beskid Sadecki and a small patch of western Bieszczady. Lemko northern border was easy to identify even in the interwar years, as the boundary between the Polish and Ruthenian. Similar difficulties had revealed no western boundary. However, the issue of delimitation of Lemkos from their eastern neighbors Boykos discussions lasted until World War II, and thus virtually to the end of the existence of compact groups of highlanders Ruthenian in Poland. The main area of Lemko area was fairly homogeneous ethnically. Poles were the vast minority here, a lot of it was purely Lemko villages, and settlements in Polish only a few. Researchers estimated in the thirties, the number of Lemkos at about 100 000 - 150 000. Lemko village was about 170, lying in an area of approximately 140 km in length, but wide only 20 - 30 km. In this area was inhabited by only 26,000 Poles and 8,000 Jews. There were also a lot of Gypsies there, often sedentary.
Lemko people were generally not very tall,. Were not a single type of anthropological, but were sent among them descendants of Vlach shepherds: stocky, dark-haired, olive-skinned. Lemkos could tell, however, easily the dress, speech and manners.
Lemko language is undoubtedly one of the Ukrainian dialects. From a literary language, however, differs significantly. Indeed stood strongly influenced by Polish and Slovak especially. There are also elements in the Hungarian and Romanian. There are many Ruthenian words in common only Lemko such chyza - hut, pec - bake. Lemko language was not homogeneous and had developed a literary form. Was rather a set of dialects, which differ greatly in different areas Lemko. When in the interwar period tried to teach, the Lemko language in ,,standardized " version from Krynica, gave rise to laughter and ridicule. Lemko tales, parables and legends, apparently still in the thirties numerous and interesting, the vast majority have been passed by word of mouth and in the postwar years has been largely forgotten. But she was also Lemko their writers. Lemko most outstanding poet - a writer was Volodymyr Chylak.
Very beautiful are the Lemko songs and chants. Music was created at the interface between Lemko folk neighbors Ukraine, Transcarpathia, Slovakia, Hungary and Polish. The songs talk about matters of life Lemkos, of love, many are soldiers songs.

Good morning Jozef,
your Wintry sceneries are so early for Greece at least for this month but beautiful to see them anyway. I like the dense snow that is covered almost everything with the chimney and a part of the house to just be seen.
Have a good day,Danos
