Visitors to Wawel Hill in Kraków descending back to the city.
Wawel Hill is the heart and soul of Polish history and culture, seat of the Polish kings for hundreds of years from the 11th century, before the capital was moved to Warsaw. In the cathedral next to the castle most Polish kings are buried, as well as President Lech Kaczyński who died in the plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, in 2010.
My intention was not to show a regular postcard from the top of Wawel Hill. There are already so many such photos on TE and elsewhere on the net. I was more attracted by this view that I found unexpectedly when approaching the hill. If you are desperate for a postcard you can have a look at the workshop.
Here is a larger version.

Finely composed picture of the people walking down the steps(?). I liked the beautiful graphic quality provided by the three diagonal layers in different colours / patterns that are nicely framed by the trees. The workshop picture is great too, both for the excellent view of the historic buildings and the group of people that add life to the picture.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice evening.

the postcard is beautiful but crowded:) This picture looks so relaxing and pleasant with just four (very well placed) people framed by two trees and two diagonals, various shades of green, and an elegant brickwork as backdrop. I like very much the arrangement of colours and textures, how the people seem to be sliding gently and the pattern next to them is enhancing the feeling of movement. A brilliant scene, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, enjoy your afternoon,

Lovely summer shot gives a totally diff perspective that looks almost 2 D capturing beyond the usual landscape. I love the graphic lines and the repeats I find very satisfying with enough interest' to make it work, the trees either side really frame the image directing focus to the row of people descending the slope plus the brilliant light has given more subtle highlight with greater sharpness. The richness of green shade is a wonderful touch as is the composition. Well done shot, TFS

Interesting and attractive picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, chosen pov and, above all, composition are all excellent photo qualities that I truly enjoyed!
TFS - congrats,

Love the idea here to take the beaten path, and also show something off the beaten path. :)
This has very much the feel of the Beatles Abbey Road album cover, you couldn't have asked these four individuals to be better spaced and in harmony as they make their way down.
Super backdrop too, adding a graphic element along with some nice, rustic color that works well with the surrounding greenery. All in all, a smart concept with wonderful execution! It pays to go unconventional sometimes. Enjoy the new day. All the best.

The diagonal made by the hill and the neat line of people makes an eye-catching and graphic composition. A very nice alternative view of this place.
Kind Regards, Ann

what i love about traveling is the personal like/dislike compared to other peoples experiences. For example, talk to most people and they will say Krakow was one of their favorite Polish cities they visited.
I didnt enjoy Krakow much at all.
Infact out of the 5 or 6 Polish cities we visited i put Krakow on the bottom!!!
Strange i know.....but everything about travel is so subjective and personal.
Another example is how i LOVED Brno in the Czech Rep, but Tosca wanted out of there as soon as possible!!
If i remember correctly you really enjoyed Krakow, correct?
Nice to see the postcard as the WS, its a fine complimentary shot to the main post.
The people in your shot are in almost perfect unicen walking down the hill.
excellent light and colors. Attractive and effective. Works for me!
Enjoy your day.

Hi Gert, this is a great perspective! A nice way to take a people pic as you like,a perfect diagonal composition, and a great quality of detail too despite the distance,i like it! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Ok, I do like the postcard but I agree that while the online world is inundated with the photos of the Castle and the Cathedral it's a good idea to show that place from a different and rarely photographed angle.
You created an interesting and eye-catching image made of large areas of contrasting colours. Graphic qualities are further enhanced by the fact that the four visitors are almost evenly spread along the path.

Poland has during the WAR II a lot in past, the nice building see become destroyed through Russia and German troops, but everything is back and maybe better and more beautiful that before the WAR II.
Excellent perspective and depth picture with lovely colours.
Sharpness and clarity make your picture very attractive.
Nice photo job, TFS.

Those people reminds of targets in a carnivals they way they are line-up. Nicely captured with good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.
rychem (28167) 2014-08-06 8:49
Very nice diagonal composition, the graphic effect is ideal, it is similar to a scene in puppet theatre, we can see figures but we can't see the artist moving puppets :)

Curious scene,well spotted.
I like POV and colors.

This view is certainly much more attractive that a 08/15 postcard shot. The diagonal of the walkway, repeated in the colored stones in the wall makes this very dynamic. The group of people is lined up as on a string or standing on an automatic walkway.
Tigerlily (3301) 2014-08-06 14:46
An interesting and amusing image. The light coloured bricks on the wall and the people in a row, I found it's quite amusing.. wonderfully using the greens to made a natural frame.
BTW, thank you for your helpful critique on my previous uploading.

Good title for this composition. When the people come to the left direction, they come back, indeed. It slightly reminds me "Abbey road" cover. ;) Perfect composition with 3 levels, excellent colors combination.
mirosu (15302) 2014-08-07 8:57
Excellent photo, the semi-diagonal arrangement is superb. I like the nice color contrast with nice palette of green colors. The people add nice life to this beautiful scene.
Very well done.

Hello Gert. Red, green, four persons. The photo is interesting even as a thumbnail. The red brick wall is graphically the most important element. Best text - as always.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

Hi Gert, I have read your discussion with Craig and all this is true. Many things contribute to the impressions from the city and the memories from there. It can be weather very often, the persons you meet, hotels and so on. And when you plan the trip, it is difficult to foresee how much time you need. Lodz is not popular and even I living so close almost do not know it. maybe I should go one day. And who goes to Lublin, and it is very nice city. I find it strange you didn't like Gdansk, maybe the only city I wouldn't mind to live except Warsaw. Attractive composition, in your style, but I maybe prefer very standard WS postcard.
In the last week I was three time a guide in my city. This time in hot sunny weather.

claudeD (35533) 2014-08-08 11:45
you really had the photographers eye when you have realized this picture. Very good composition, fine colors and excellent sharpness. You did an excellent fotojob here.TFS.

Angshu (56592) 2014-08-13 9:29
You were in luck that the 4 people are almost equal spaced from each other...was beyond your control, but that's what makes this interesting! Framing by the foliage has been done well and the BG of the brick fence with that design lends extra to this picture! Thanks for the WS as well...
COSTANTINO (59991) 2014-08-14 4:24
Hello dear friend

Just saw the WS a true nightmare so many tourist, much better to post this creative and personal capture of color contrast orange-green
Quite eye catching the diagonal of people at the back
Well done, regards

This is so well seen! You captured these four people in a row really well. They are nicely framed by the trees and I like the diagonal lines in the composition too.
imageme (1790) 2014-08-17 10:14
Hi Gert, A nice motion effect delivered by the descending path from the hill with these four visitors. The red brick wall gives a nice graphic pattern to the composition. The dark green tree and the slope in the front contrast to the light green in the BG just great for the color contrasts. An ordinary scenery with a well thought perspective results in this outstanding image. Thank for sharing
PaulVDV (24435) 2014-08-29 22:00
I'm afraid I was really desperate to see your postcard :)
The main picture is an attractive composition of lines and surfaces with a strong red-green contrast. Only the branches at the left and the four persons break through the austere contours.
I red the comment of Jason and yes, there's a comparison with the cover of the Abbey Road album.
Best regards, Paul
mcmtanyel (16741) 2014-09-03 21:20
I like your layered composition here with a lovely brick-colored wall sandwiched between two green areas. The four pedestrians bring some relaxed dynamism to the photo.
