Photographer's Note

I saw this young couple in a side-street of the Old town of Krakķw. Maybe the heat (at least 30° C) had become too much for them, maybe they were tired from looking for a hostel with vacancies, or maybe they were (like me) overwhelmed by the impact of mass tourism on the World heritage classified Old town.

I apologize to all Poles who may feel personally insulted when I confess that I didn't much enjoy the Old town of Krakķw. It's the main tourist attraction in Poland, but for me the crowds that had taken over every street and every square were just too much. Michael (mjw364) in a note recently referred to cities like Barcelona, Prague and Venice as "theme parks" where normal lives had become impossible. My impression of Krakķw's old town was that nothing seemed genuine, and I just couldn't appreciate the undeniable beauty of some churches and other buildings.

The rest of Krakķw, on the other hand, was very nice and I enjoyed my 4-5 days in the city, as long as I avoided the Old town.

I will post two pictures showing glimpses of life among the tourists in the Old town as workshops.

Here is a larger version of the main upload.
