Photographer's Note
View of Wawel Castle rebuilt during the Renaissance.
The ruling of the last Jagiellon was a time of splendour for Wawel. In that time, (between 1507–1536) the Royal Seat was thoroughly rebuilt. Sigismund I the Old sponsored that enormous undertaking. The works were supervised by two Italians: Francisco from Florence and Bartolommeo Berrecci. After their death, Benedykt from Sandomierz continued their work. From light arcade galleries of the courtyard, supported by slender columns one enters spacious and sunlit chambers. The inside of the castle, including the splendid Deputy Hall with its coffering ceiling, gives evidence of the great skills of both Italian and Polish craftsmen. Palace chambers were decorated with tapestries which Sigismund August purchased in large quantities. In the beginning of the 16th century, the tombstone of John Olbracht was placed in the niche sculptured by Francesco Fiorentino. That is the first renaissance work of art in Poland. In 1517 the construction of the Sigismund's Chapel started which acted as the mausoleum of the last Jagiellon. Sixteen years later the construction was completed. From that period other tombstones remained, such as those of Cardinal Frederic Jagiellon and of bishops Piotr Gamrat, Piotr Tomicki, Jan Konarski, Jan Chojenski and Samuel Maciejowski. In 1520 Sigismund Bell was cast. In the Cathedral one may find manneristic works of art: the tombstones of Stephen Báthory and bishop Fillip Padniewski – both designed by Santi Gucci and also the tombstone of bishop Andrzej Zebrzydowski designed by Jan Michalowicz from Urzedow.

The same put photograph yesterday was removed. I don't know why. It only differed in that it was drawn up in the HDR technique.

Bonjour Aleksander,
Un cadrage classique mais très efficace de cet immense bâtiment qui prend beaucoup d'espace dans la composition. Ses murs hauts sont impressionnants.
Amicalement

Hello Aleksander,
I didn't see the HDR version of this, but I think the rules don't allow exaggerated HDR photos, whatever that means. I know some HDR pictures (possibly not yours) look very unnatural. This on the other hand is very good, with colours that seem genuine and natural. The castle and the wall both look marvellous and I enjoy that there is some human presence in the foreground.
KInd regards,
Gert

Hello Aleksander,
I was just writing a critic when your first post of this picture disappeared. Too bad. It looked fantastic with the HDR.
From this POV the Wawel Castle looks very impressive. Probably because it rises up so high behind the closing wall.
You can try again later with another HDR-version of this view.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Aleksander,
this aspect of the castle is very interesting too even though less attractive than the previous view you presented and less favoured by the light. The foreground provides a context of daily life and traffic and enhances the depth of the picture. The composition is well considered, clarity is excellent and the warm colours look very attractive in the moody light and against surrounding cool or neutral tones. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello Aleksander
Marvellous warm vs cold colour contrasts between the red roof, yellow ochre facade, red brick wall & the colder tones of the blue sky. Excellent sharpness and well composed, with excellent control over perspective in this wonderful architectural shot. The green turrets add interest. Tfs!
