Photographer’s Note

Here he is again, my troll from Roeros ;)
He was just great, and he must've had something to do with trolls in his past lifetimes as well as now! I met him during this festival, or market actually, and he's the most open minded troll out roaming in Norway today.

This picture is very inspired by the french photographer named Jean-Baptiste Rabouan (www.rabouan.fr). I shot it digitally in raw and changed the whitebalance to maintain the tone.
Small contrast adjustment and sharpening.

I like what you did with the blue, can you explain in more detail how you achieved this tone? Subject, sharpness, DOF and cropping are all good/interesting. The face he makes is excellent and I like how his left eye is almost sparkling. Good job!

Hi Terje!

I like the composition and the character here a lot. The level of detail, DOF and exposure are excellent here. I do not quite like the toning though... I admit it was the idea of yours, but it still seems too striking to me... I'd try a bit softer (may be even selective) toning here...

one of the funniest pictures I saw on TE !
But I can't agree with mitternacht, there's just too much blue ! When saturation and blue are reduced, the colours come back to a natural level, while the eye sparkles even more...

Ooh yes I remember that troll, your blue balance, specially regarding his mineral-like eye, gives him a completely different look, now. I must say that you found both the character and the accurate atmosphere for a fairy tale movie.

The truer side is that you have been somehow hiding to us a few facts : your image is purposely devoid of any sense of scale, and while you're trying to make us figure you're showing an ogre sized troll, I found the proof you can actually hold this guy in your pocket, see this documentary shot.

Aha, Terje, are you seriously thinking we're so naive we could believe you found a human sized troll?

This is a great portrait of a very interesting individual; you don't encounter too many guys like this in the States. The photo is very sharp (the glimmer in his eye is great), and I really like the blue tone as it seems to add to the wintry feel of the shot.
