Steering with the wind
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
For those of you who have some knowledge about sailing, the importance of steering with the wind is probably obvious, especially when sailing close to the wind direction.
On a tall ship, it is not very different, except that the possible angle between the wind's direction and the ship's route is much smaller.
But it remains very important for a good helmsman to check simultaneously his route on the compass, and the reactions of the sails in the wind.
On Sorlandet, the helmsman is located at the rear of the ship, which gives an excellent view on the mizzen mast and the other mast in front of it, as you can see here.

And the sailing tutorial continues with another beautiful picture. This time the sails are opened (my apologies for the language from someone that knows nothing about sailing) and the view is impressive. The man at the helm is an excellent add-on and gives the important scale. Well done.
