Operahuset
Displayed here is a part of the slanted marble clad roofscape of The Oslo Opera House and behind it the business district of Oslo.
This exciting Opera House (in Norwegian, Operahuset) is the seat of The Norwegian National Opera and Ballett, and the national opera theatre in Norway. The building lies in Bjørvika peninsula, in the center of Oslo, at the head of the Oslofjord. It's dominating position made me think about the Sydney Opera House.
The Norwegian government wanted the Opera House to be a landmark for Norway as a cultural nation, highlighting the Norwegian Opera and Ballet, and also the foundation for the urban redevelopment of the area. The design by Snøhetta won the international competition in 2000.
The conceptual basis of the building is a combination of three elements, the “Wave Wall, the “Factory” and the “Carpet.” The carpet forms the main outer layer - horizontal and sloping surfaces on top of the building. This “Carpet” has been given an articulated form, in a way echoing the surrounding cityscape. It’s made of Italian ‘La Facciata' marble.
The structure provides a total area of 38,500 m² spanning 1,100 rooms, one of which has 1,350 seats and one with up to 400 seats.
More information about the architecture is here
In the WS is an overview of almost the entire building.
The Opera House was finished in 2007 with the opening event held on Saturday April 12, 2008. The Norwegians were dismayed that the media's pictures and video footage of the ceremony contained primarily the deep cleavage of German kanselier Angela Merkel.
The PCS3 work flow: I altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized, sharpened the edges on a 60% transparent layer and did a gentle USM (1,0px, 20%) again on that layer.

The mirrored right side blends very well in the over all frame and gives the idea that the background building has a kind of freak architecture. It is very well done and I like it a lot.

Hi Bert, very well composed and compelling, the slanting glass wall and its deformed reflections and the sloping walk. Thanks for sharing..Alex

Hi Bert
Oslo seems to have changed so much since I was last there 17 years ago. This building looks fantastic. It was good to capture the 2 people walking although I would have liked them just slightly more to the left. The sharpness is excellent.

as usual, a fantastic rendering of another already famous building.
Colors, pov everything balanced. Even the couple, which i would like to see more to the left, if we look better, you would miss the reflection and part of the dinamics would have been lot.
interesting workflow. i´ll try it one of these days.

Hello Bert,
The angle of the glass wall gives a tilted impression and add dynamics to the composition!
A well balanced composition with sharp fine details, lovely colours and great lines...

Dag Bert,
John.

Hi Bert,
Funny to see the reflections of the building in the background. At the beginning my eyes only focussed on that building and the bend side. I really thought the reflection was part of the building. Funny.
Greetings!

Thanks to the WS we can see this is a very impressive building. On the main post the reflections are what catch the eye instantly. You framed the image well and timed it just right to catch the people and their reflections too. Very good work

Hi Bert,
What a marvelous picture of Operahuset in Oslo. I love your timing with the two people obviously on the move and in a hurry. Also a fantastic composition with refections and the impression of an irregular and pending building. TFS and have a fine week-end!
Cheers,
Ulf

Hi Bert,
Groeten,
Lars

hello Bert,
excellent photo, I like a lot the futuristic and urban mood the glass and the clear blue sky with the reflection that doubles the effect create. I've always enjoyed creative city abstractions, and here I particularly like how you have included the people in the frame, it surely makes the shot very lively. great work, my compliments.
with best regards,
Kristine

Urban, inspired, stunning and really great.
You composed it pretty well, with these two people (looking a little 80's) walking through that old-fashioned futuristic world. Excellent.

Hallo Bert,

Mooi werk!
