Photographer’s Note
Exactly four people, enjoying a beautiful end of evening in Oslo. This photo was taken last Thursday, June 3rd around 9 pm...
I had been walking around the park, where many people were having picnics enjoying the sun, looking for a group of 4 for the Scavenger Hunt, I hope this counts, even though they were not together as a group,...
Of course, the ever present Norwegian seagulls are there, the Vigeland sculptures are magnificent and very photogenic as well... more info on them below:
THE VIGELAND PARK covers an area of 80 acres. The 212 sculptures are all modelled in full size by Gustav Vigeland. He also designed the architectural setting and the layout of the grounds. The Vigeland Park includes a great number of Gustav Vigeland's works. Here are 212 sculptures in bronze and granite and several wrought iron gates. Vigeland modelled all his sculptures in full size without any assistance of pupils or other artists. The carving in stone and the casting in bronze were left to a number of talented craftsmen. The area west of the ponds was in 1924 given to Vigeland for the construction of the Fountain, the Monolith and the many granite groups at the Monolith plateau. (some of them appear on the photo). Around 1930 the sculpture park was enlarged eastwards, into the older Frogner Park, to include a new bridge decorated with sculptures and a unique main entrance in granite and wrought iron. Vigeland did not live to see the completed park.
The sculptures you see here: In 1947 the installation of the 36 figure groups on the Monolith Plateau began. Vigeland started the work on these granite groups around the first world war and finished them in 1936. As in the Fountain, the principal theme is the cycle of life in which Man is depicted in a variety of typical human situations and relationships.

Excelente foto.

nie picture Elena, nicely composed with those stairs on the diagonal line, plenty of different things, poses and expressions in one frame, very enjoyable picture!

Great photo (easy gull spotting though!) of a quiet minute in that park we love (to hate) here in Oslo. Two comments: like iamxa points out, there's something unreal between the saturation of the sky and the tone of skin on the people, and I wonder if you could have cropped out (or included more of) the slightly darker plateau at the bottom... All in all - big green face coming your way (supongo que ya van a venir mas fotos de noruega/paris?)

Hi Elena. This could also qualify for the repeating patterns upload as well, the stairs are a very effective component of this shot. The even spacing of the people is great here and I like the diagonal they are on. My only suggestion is that the saturation seems just a little high here, not sure if it is the camera or PP, but toning it down a little might work too. Good shot.

the contrast between colors and the grey figures is powerful. there seems to be a silent activity going on between those lifeless statues. in contrast to their activity, the human parts are somewhat passive.
good shot.

Ok, stoned people don´t count. You lined them up on the diagonal in a fine way and I like the grey enviroment and blue sky, all other colors are on the four.
I would like a new version a few hours later with sunset light taken when the girl on top finally moved down to the guy in the middle ;o)

Well seen and captured Elena - great composition. I saw the wonderful Vigeland sculptures many years ago and it's good to be reminded of them. I like Kourosh's comment regarding the dynamic poses of the stone figures compared to the passive ones of the real people.

Very nicely spotted. Great composition with the stairs leading us up to see all four people. All doing their own thing on each level. They stand out from the sculpture but also become part of it it here which is neat. And I really like that there is just sky beyond the stairs and statues. It really gives it a surreal feel. Like these stairs just end in the sky and so these people then are high in the sky, too. Great job.

Elena, this is a perfectly designed composition. Proportions of sky, stairs, and sculptures are nicely balanced. Colors are wonderfully bright. The seagulls seemed to having posed just for you, to help you make this shot a perfect one. The general impression is one of a moment in life when humans, art, and wildlife play all together in harmony!
Very, very, very well done.
ps: I can't resist one suggestion: PhotoShop erasing of the red piece of cloth and the camera laid on the lower stairs, by the foot of the bold man.
Cheers, --amz
