Going home for Christmas Photo

Photographer’s Note

Last upload before christmas is a motif from Oslo harbour. In the back the town hall, and in front: A blurred vison of the commuter ferry on its route to and from the penisula Nesoddtangen. People living out there prefer the 20 minute ferry instead of going by car some 50 minutes along the road.

Excellent picture with this blur on the ship. Really lovely.

Hi Jack, this is a nice blue hour picture, seing this i realize the gap between good photographer like you and young one like me ;)
F 4,5 for 1 sec seems to work well
Excellent sharpness for an overall very eyes catching picture

Hi Jack. A beautiful mood with the blue tonality and the colorful lights including the reflections on the rippled water surface. Good tech to render the background details sharp versus the foreground "speedboat". Happy holidays and best wishes for 2007.

very amusing image, Jack, any moving object (and you prove size does not matter) renders a great image with the right f speed.
excellent colors, composition, the reflections in the water, and the blue hour...

God Morgen Jack!

This really is a powerful image of what some people have to go through every day, not least when going home from christmas.
The morning skies look marvellous, I can remember it from when I was serving my military service in Oslo.
The motion blur of the ferry looks great and this was only with 1 second exposure.
I do however have a bit problem with getting the impression of where it is going. Your sort of have to seach for the trail in the water before realizing. So maybe a little more air around the ferry and maybe an attempt to place the ferry slightly more to one side in the photo, a little towards where it came from?

Interesting effect caused by the slow exposure and the motion caused by the ferry. Nice lighting and color, your early evening capture show us a nice example of the blue hour in the sky.

Hello Jack, the vibrating life of this large city burst through this quay and from this boat which transpierces the image, a beautiful photograph of night with these luminous rays of intensity and from different colors which hangs the glance, j'aime all these points of various colors which put life in the photograph, I benefit from this photograph in which this scene made bathes fairy-like, to wish you beautiful festivals of Christmas

Excellent colors in this shot. The townhall is evenly illuminated. As for the ferry, I know the effect was deliberately wanted, but...I don't know, I need time to get used to it. In the mean time I wish you and your family all the best for the coming year.
PS: Luxemburg is easely reached on the way South.

Nice blue hour shoot, the town hall structures are nicely evenly lit and shine in the late night (I see it's morning blue hour), the good thing about it in Norway is that you don't need to wake up early or go to bed late to enjoy such moments... It took me a while to fugure out the blurred part is due to the departing ferry !

I remember of that city hall of Oslo and the bus boat that wee took from the museum to go back in the center of the city! Colors are very nice the the motion of the boat is very special. Well done and happy new year too. I hope you will meet other TE members in your cottage!

Happy new year Jack - great timing, it's interesting how the reflected lights in the water remained sharp, the boat must have been going fast, the orange tower and blue makes an appealing colour combination.
