This photo was taken from the Flamsbana as we entered Flam. The Flåm Railway is one of the worlds steepest railway lines on normal gauge. The gradient is 55/1000 on almost 80% of the line, i.e. a gradient of one in eighteen. The journey runs from Flåm to Myrdal covering 20km and assending 2838 feet. The train passes through 20 tunnels and pass countless waterfalls and magnificent scenery. At Myrdal you can connect to the Bergen - Oslo railway.
This river leads to the Fjord where our cruise ship was docked.

Emilius

Congratulation..!

I really like the contrast of the perfectly sculpted town against the roughness of the mountains. ... the town also gives a wonderful sense of scale.

wonderful image.

John

marvelous shot dearwell composed and great depth of field you have depicted

Hi Asa
A lovely place there;the water there in full movement and the compo is good;the colours and contrast are a bit soft, but I like the picture.

Hi Asa!
What a fabled and picturesque country! Its an impressive POV and fascinating atmosphere. Details are fine and interesting. Its so than a romantic painting. I like it very much!
Thank you, nice days

Hi Asa
A beautiful photo well taken.
The river winding its way down the valley leads us through delightful villages.
A picture postcard scene.
A perfect compliment to the other photos you have posted of this area.

Hi Asa,
Your photo has just added a new place to my list of places to visit. In your well-framed photo, the town looks like an idealized version of a Norweigian town, with the houses clustered at the curve of the river, the green meadows ending abruptly at the soaring mountains... and you saw it from a train. I love trains!! The color and detail are excellent as well.

Wonderful POV.I have the impression of looking at a toy village!Good colors and movement in the river.
Do you know if there is a trail going up ,as it must be interresting to be able to stop and have a good look at the scenery.?

Nice photograph of what appears to be a nice place. As for the colors and the contrast being a bit soft as mentioned below...maybe just a tad but not much....boosting the contrast to much would probably make the shadowed part of the mountian on the left un-natural, I don't know.

The worksop version cuts out the sky, which, in my opinion, is an important part of the perspective....just my two bits worth.

Great Job.
Aloha, JB

Hi Asa - beautiful view, though I would crop a little tighter, the blurry tree makes it obvious that this was taken from a moving vehicle, the left side overall is somewhat redundant and the little bit of sky is unnecesssary, Didi's workshop is exactly the way it should be cut.

Hi asa, very nice shot. The light on the river is wonderful, and contrasts well with the dark, brooding mountain in the background.

Hi Asa,
your photograph is amazing from the side of oppositions of cleanliness and lighting. The idyll landscape, creates you a sense of calm and relaxation.Greetings,Danos

I know from much personal experience that its not easy to take a photo from a moving train and here you have succeeded admirably. The POV is hugely dramatic, and you have chosen well to eliminate sky, emphasizing depth and scale. Excellent shot Asa.

Hi Asa,
I can't believe my eyes...I have taken exactly the same photo from this perspective during my trip to Norway. But, your photo is much more clear and sharp. The colours of the houses are well defined. I see that the weather was sunny and it nicely enlightened the small village.
Zeynep

Hi Asa,
This scene looks to perfect to be true. It looks like something someone would build as a model. I would love to visit here. Just the perfect photo, what more can I say.

Hello Asa,

you have a fine gallery and it was difficult to chose but I didn't pick this one just because it is a featured photo but because of the magnificent view you give us. The flowing river runs well through the image and the pretty & small houses sit well on its banks; smooth and calm in contrast to the hardness of the mountains. Good light, colours and a great pov. A fine image, well done.

Regards

Stephen

Hi Asa,

A good POV of the Flam valley and of the mountains, the photo has a good composition, DOF and nice colors. Thanks for sahring.

Hi Asa:

Wonderful perspective of a beautiful valley. I would have been tempted to take a shot from farther down, but I think you did right shooting it from higher up. It makes the village look like a scale model. I love the perspective of the river winding through the picture. It does seem a tad overexposed, but otherwise beautiful.

Stunning arial shot of this lovely river winding through such a charming village The long shadow leading to the end of the village lends a bit of drama.

Bonjour Asa,

Hello Asa,

I remember this short excursion between Myrdal and Flåm well -- one of he most scenic train rides one can imagine. I could not get a very good shot of the river below, and I am happy to see it posted. Good shot, Asa, of 'God's Country.'

I like you shot of the bucolic countryside very much.

Hello Asa,
I was really surprised to find I haven't commented on this one! Maybe the fact I've seen it so often mislead me...
It is a beautiful capture of Flåmsdalen, with the winding river and the houses scettered around...
A nice summer day where the light is wonderful, giving good colours and details to the scenery, well done!

The way the S shaped river enters the photograph makes the eyes wander into the story, which takes place in this idyllic little northern town. Beautiful shot. My only comment would be about the light. Though the shadows are longer (probably due to the time of the year and latitude) than usual for that hour, would it be even better if it was taken at an earlier hour around sunrise? All the same, very nice photography. Thanks for sharing.
