Photographer’s Note

Sola beach again.
I simply love to take walk at this beach, and almost every time I get a nice sunset.
Taking thoughts away from the sunsets themselves, I decided to simply turn around to have a picture of the sanddunes at this beach.
These sandunes have always been here, as long as anyone in Sola can remember or historically know of.
In my opinion this photo gives more meaning to the notes of my other photos from Sola and its historical sites.
Time for a little history:
The Marehalm (Leymus areanarius) has stood here for ages, I'm not sure for how long, but according to Norwegian history it was brought to Norway from Denmark in an unknown century.
During world war two the occupying German forces had special uses for Sola airport situated just behind these sanddunes. As a result of this all the surrounding areas had to be secured, especially this beach and the other total of some 40-50km of similar beaches to the south of Sola.
The Germans then erected lots of manned defencive positions along the coast and around the airport.
The problem with the beaches was the fact that they were easy to assault amfibiously.
This made the German occupying forces put down massive mine fields both on land and at sea.

When the second world war eventually ended these minefields were cleared, but not completely.
Luckily for us living here thay have never really been a problem, but when this beach was struck by a powerful storm in the mid nineties, there appeared lots of mines on this very beach. They were simply hidden under the Marehalm

To our own luck they have now been removed, but we never know.

Please feel free to give me any advice you feel I might need.
