This is a red intercity train from Oslo to Bergen on the Bergenline. The Norwegian Railways are called NRK and they have 4077 km of rails.

On the Bergenline, the highest point is 1301 meters by Taugevtan and this line is the highest railline of Northern Europe. The longest tunnel is 10,6 km. It was very snowy in the mountains. We could see people skiing next to the train and lot of people also brought their skis in the train (as you can see on the platform as well).

This line was opened in 1909 and it was the biggest industry project payed by the state. Since 1964, electrical trains were used.

On this station, we had to wait some 30-40 minutes, because a bus to this station in the middle of the line (and oops, this is not Bergen, but a place somewhere in between, I don't know the name) was delayed, and when there is only a few trains every day, you have of course a problem when you miss the train. Nobody complained about this, it seemed very normal.

I wonder what happened if a train in the Netherland just would wait some 30-40 minutes on a bus. Well, it is hard to compare, a small country with a lot of inhabitants and a big country with just a few inhabitants.

The photo is cropped a bit by the bottom and top. I used auto levels, colours and contrasts in Photoshop and I increased the saturation with 5. I also made the sky a bit darker -5/-9. The photo is made smaller and after that sharpened in InfranView.

To some comments: yes, the sky is very white. But I didn't mind so much here, because it matches very well with the cold wintercolours and the bright red.
The photo is not totally straight, but I liked that as well in combination with the curves/the lines on the platform.

the red train is nice, and its well composed, i like the snow laid around in parts, looks like the two trains are meeting at the top! is that your bag?

i think the sky is too over exposed, maybe on a shoter exposure the sky would be beter and also the trains would be a deeper red, this may improve the shot? what do you think?

Tjena Stef !

What a funny and strange view here. It seems that the train is turning around and you're surrounded by it everywhere.

I really like this "black and red" types of pictures. Here even the people are perfect for that, very well seen! The only think I don't really like, is the bright white sky, but I guess it was not that easy...

med vänlig hälsning !
Youssef.

PS: I'm a bit surprised to see that you made your sharpening in Irfan ! Do you prefer it than Photoshop ? First I was jsut resizing with it, but when I passed to Photoshop, I realized that there was such a big difference !

Very nice Stef! The note that goes with it is very informative.

Hi Stef, A nice capture of the bright red train with the reflections on the windows. I like the perspective view and the different lines showing in this picture. Nice contrast and nice DoF.

Dag Stef,
Groeten,
John

This is a good tight perspective and the red train is increasing the effect here.
Nice situation for a good composition and I like it.
There are two points that looks to me a bit disturbing.
The composition is slightly falling to the left at the level of the horizontal line above the quay. And rthe sky but for this one it is winter :)))
Even saying all this I find it a good composition with great intentions.
Jean Michel

What I find interesting about this shot is the two red trains and how they seem to meet at the end of the shot.

The sky seems a bit bright but its not a major factor, maybe you coudl have darkened it a bit before posting?

Interesting everyday type shot.

Mooi werk.

Hi Stef. Obviously the bending depth is well-played here. I love the strong reds contrasted with the snow. I see the sky without much detail and I guess that's common the time of year you shot this. Nice shot Stef.

interesting work here, I like the perspective and the reds here, very good curves too, well done

It sure is red, and the DOF is awesome, right to the vanishing point in this excellent composition. Congratulations to you, Stef on this well rendered image.
Best,
Matt

Great composotion. I think the red train contrasts very well with the cold white weather. Good job. Regards!
