The short days of December Photo

Photographer’s Note

The days are becoming a little bit shorter until Dec. 21st.
As for now up here in the central mountains of Norway the sun rise 09.30 and sets at 15.15 in the afternoon.

This leaves only for some hours to outdoor activities and as here secure the last of the day in a photo as the sun makes the snow golden with the last sun rays.

Light very well managed in this beautiful country view. The back-light renders every detail on the snow. Good contrasts.

hello Jack,
beautiful photo, I like a lot how the light seems to be gliding over the snow in the foreground, and the textures it brings out. the fiery ball of sun is a great contrast with the frozen scene, and even though I might prefer the house a little less centered, I like a lot how the strong diagonals lead the eye through the shot. excellent work, my compliments.

Hello Jack!
Although living in a Tropical Country I love wintertime! This picture really gives me the best impression of all this season has (the cold weather, the typical sunlight, clear sky and snow!). I specially like the snow in the very foreground with the golden-color because of the sunset! Excellent photo job!

Splendid sunset and wonderful lndscape. To see the snow turn into gold is a marvel. A great sense of depth but above all a very fine atmosphere. An excellent composition.

Hi Jack,
I take my hat off! This picture is very beautiful and the quality is superior, no doubt. Not easy (at least for me) to face the sun like this.
Here in Quebec, days are short too. In our region, there are no mountains to delay the sun from appear on the sky nor to hurry it to disappear, and sunrise is at about 7:30 AM and sunset at about 4:00 PM. But soon it will start its way back to the North - Winter solstice tomorrow!!!

Hi, Jack. Nice shadow and light effects. The wave-like shapes of the snow point towards the horizon where the sun is setting. Good positioning of the house and the trees.

This is a fine sunset shot. The golden glow on the snow adds nice color for the scene. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. The long shadows create excellent contrast for the scene.

This picture reminds me a documentary I saw on television(28-12-08) about the Sami people in Norway.People resistant to cold.
The Portuguese do not stand up so cold:)
