Photographer’s Note

It is a well known fact that Norway is a mountainous country, not the tallest mountains but surely a lot of them.
And of course we feel like making roads over them, lately it's more under them but lets forget about that.

I took this photo during a little trip to Setesdalen in Aust-Agder, Norway.
This road here is the only "middle" road to pass between the valleys of Sirdal and Setesdal.
I'm not sure when it was built, but I think it was build early in the 80's.
It's very narrow, at best you can get two cars in the width. But naturally like most things in Norway people always wanna try something else. Trailers and caravans are a regular thing to meet up on this road.

The point of which I took this photo is just after the first climb, the highest point on this road is 1052 meters above sealevel. At this point the climb from the valley floor is maybe some 400 meters and we are still only at about 900 meters above sealevel.

The place I took this photo is called Suleskard, but since the road was built from this point they ended up calling the entire road Suleskard veien.

Due to the height at which it crosses the mountain the road is closed from November 1st to the middle of May. The amount of snow is simply too extreme. It easily falls some 4-6 meters of snow.

Enjoy.
