Farms in Oppdal [1] Photo

Photographer’s Note

This mountain is quite a landmark in Oppdal, Mt Hornet (Storhornet, altitude 1589 m), visible from almost everywhere in the village and surroundings as it marks the western border of the municipality. Mt Hornet is not the highest mountain in Oppdal, but the location and the shape make it an eye-catcher.

Maybe you recognize the red barn? In fact red barns are not that common in Oppdal as in the rest of the county! Later I will upload images showing more typical Oppdal farms.

Due to the altitude there are limitations for the farm crop. Most are cow-, sheep- or even goat farms as grass is the crop most suitable for this mountain location.

In addition the farmers in Oppdal have gained national fame for the excellent potatoes, thanks to the sandy soil and dry mountain climate. I too dropped by one of the farms and bought 35 kg potatoes during my visit, not from this farm but right around the corner, hehehe…

I'm adding a close-up of Mt Hornet as workshop.

This is the first image in a mini series showing three different farm types/ designs in the mountain village Oppdal. This place used to be a typical farming area but nowadays tourism is by far more important, based on alpine skiing.

This sunlit red barn in the centre looks very nice and makes the view very picturesque, in combination with the distand mountains covered with snow. Very lovely, soft clouds over the mountains in the light-blue sky! Deep contrast and shadows add depth to the picture and make it very atractive and peaceful.

Norway has such interesting landscape views and you have presented many lovely ones. The hill is laiden with snow and is so very different from Malaysia where trees and vegetation cover almost the whole hill.

This hill is so gentle. Really nice view of the countryside.

Everything seems to be moving to the right: the light, the mountain and the dark slope of the wooded hill. This adds a certain dynamicity to an already attractive composition.
Three distinct grounds or planes, the field with the houses lit by a warm light, the hill behind, and the mountain in the background: each one with a distinct colour that creates a cromatic contrast. Very good.

This is a very nice landscape shot showing us the contrast of two seasons. The foreground has a autumn/harvest look to it while the background is winter with the snow covered mountains. The slope of the hill in the middle creates a nice diagonal through the shot. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF.

Hi Pablo,
Your framing gives a very real sense of Mt Hornet's imposing presence. You've thoughtfull framed a very harmopniuos composition with the agle of the hillside dividing the mountain above and the farm community below. The perfect detail gives the sense of a minature village.
Looks like skiing will soon start. Our mountain is still quite bare.

Oh I noticed it, all Sweden are painted this red-iron paint, but in Norway are much more often some different colors.

If I do understand the picture, we are here in the presence of at least two distinct farms, one in the foreground with a quite modest house and another one in the far background with a rather big residence. Am I correct?
Anyway, the view is fantastic and the snow covered mountain is really a good eye catcher with all the good textures and under a beautiful sky. I thought by now the sky would be much more overcastted and grey. Well done.

Superb background, Pablo. In fact, I even prefer the closer approach in WS that is an amazing image, even if doesn't have the same sharpness as this one. The textures and the play of light & shadow makes it a very beautiful view. Don't get me wrong - this one is an excellent picture and much more informative within your theme of farms but the other makes me dream...and today is Friday, so I will climb it to the top and ski down keeping the tradition alive :)))

I do seem to remember this red barn..but have to say that the exposure on Mt.Hornet is the best in this shot (as compared to your previous shots). The shape comes out very well here, perhaps due to the low light, judging by the long shadows in the FG. Very nice landscape shot!

This photo, I find it very charming, the rural area of Norway, a country I love to visit one day. Same with many other rural and farmlands, I find them very down to earth, perhaps, we know the food we eat daily comes from there. I feel the gratitude of the farmer and places like such, the mother nature that give us the resources of our nutrition. This image is excellent in technical quality and well composed with all element in the right place that bring out the charm of the farmland situated in such beautiful nature. Thanks so much.
