Autumn Meets Winter I Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is the church in the parish of Oppdal, located high in the hillside and overlooking the village and surroundings.

What we see here is autumn meeting winter in low light last Friday, the weather forecast for the week-end was snow over 1000 m, and the snow line shows clearly in the image. This is of course the first snow of the season, freshly fallen the night before and according to tradition it will most likely disappear…

Tourism is the most important business in Oppdal and in particular during wintertime, and behind the church we can see one of the numerous lifts taking tourists to the summits around the village.

Many visitors to Oppdal have their own cabin or apartment in the area, while the ordinary tourists stay in one of the many hotels and pension houses.

The image in workshop 1 shows one of the cabin villages, and the image in workshop 2 takes a closer look at one of the cabins in this village (60/187).

Hi Pablo,

I like always very much the combination of fall colours with the white snow. Also here in the Southern Alps we had last weekend the first snow down to 1200 m.
Your compostion with the lonly church surrounded by the colourful landscape is very appealing; thanks for sharing.

the snow is for sure magic in just one moment the whole fireworks of yellow,red brown and orange is gone one nights of snowfall and the silent death besiege the whole landscape and turning in to BW silent movie.

I like the atmosphere in your photo which really transmits the feeling of cold, of humidity, of autumn very well. The little church is a wonderful eyecatcher here and it gives something like cosiness in this beautiful but uncomfortable scenery.

Hi Pablo,

You captured a beautiful mix of Autumn and Winter. I see that snow (and cold!) comes early to that part of the world. How different from our South!... I still use Summer clothes and the first Autumn rains only showed up last Tuesday (we had some rain before, but it didn't feel like Autumn yet because it isn't so rare to have rain in August and September).

Somehow the white of the snow combines neatly with the white walls of the church (or is it a home?) and makes a nice contrast with the Autumn colours of the trees making them stand out even more.

I like very much both the WS's, not only for complementing the view, but because they are great photos that deserved being main posts. On the #1 I like much the graphics made by the tree patches and the snow. On the #2, I like the graphics and those charming grassed roofs, which I believe that besides being beautiful, are also effective keeping the cold out of the houses.

Hi Pablo. Splendid view. It is very early that winter is coming. It is nice to have long days in summer, almost without night, but it means now you have short days. Difficult time,I suppose. I like the delicate colours and simple but beautiful church in the middle.

Olá Pablo, excellent presentation of the place with a good choice of the 3 pictures. Good isolation of the church surrounded by autumn trees while the top of the tower is already visiting winter. I find very interesting this transition of two seasons in one picture. It seems that vegetation on the roof is common in Norway - the WS2 shows a charming cabin village.

Excellent compo, I like the surprising mixture of autumn and winter, of red/yellow/rusty trees and snow on the mountains. The white church is a very welcome element of contrast and a focal point of the photo...

Hi Pablo,

The point of view leads our eyes toward the church and the mountain covered with snow in the background. The possibility of seein two sides of the church is an asset to the composition. The trees with the fall colors are framing well the building. Even with the cloudy sky, the light brings out the colors. Have a nice day.

Autumn and winter in one day, I don't think I have seen that combination, actually end of October in Austria we did but that was very late October and the colours were not as wild as this. The church really stands out here in this scene and the red tree is particularly appealing. I just hope that Autumn has not finished before it really has started in Norway.

Lovely POV on this elegant little church lost between winter and autumn! The white of the church recalls the white snow very well, and the bright autumn trees give a nice touch of colour.
I like the WS too, especially the cottage with grass gowing on the roof! I wonder if the roofs need mowing sometimes? 0:))

It is going to be bright here in the western tip of Brittany, but the autumn colours haven't really started yet. We often don't get them very bright, because of the weather: never very cold, never very hot. We hardly know what snow is nowadays.

The lack of strong light does not hamper your nice capture of the cloudy sky and colorful feature of the house and trees on the slope of this mountain covered at the top with snow. Perhaps contrast level is low, especially where the spire is against the backdrop.

But I like the scenic view of this capture and showing such a good location of the church looking over the valley below.

It's very beautiful - the uncertain snow over the hill - as if shy to come so early. We also had it last week over the top of our Vitosha mountain, though we have not that colors on the trees still.

The inclusion ot the church makes it very artistic.

This is a fine shot with wonderful autumn colors which are starkly contrasted by the snow covered mountain in the background. The lighting and colors are great here with nice sharpness and DOF. The off center placement of the church is great helping to give the shot a sense of depth and direction.

I find another photo I missed with my lack of attention to TE. The church really makes a great focal point, surrounded by fall color. And on the mountain, winter creeps down to take its season. Looks like your countryman got out beforwe the salmon fisheries in Alaska lost their markets to farmed fish.
