The Valley of My Childhood [15]

I was thirteen when I left Gauldalen behind, after living there since I was born… In this series it is my aim to show the diversity and daily life in this area, during all seasons of the year.

Smoke and dust, noise, strong backlight… and a feeling of chaos!

I could not resist this scene as I passed by on the road, and photographed the situation through the windscreen!

They are building a new bridge across river Gaula, and the connecting road parts on each side. And they are supposed to be finished by the “end of summer 2008” according to the roadside sign…

Promise, I will publish some nice autumn images after this!

Gauldalen is the main valley in the central part of Norway in the county Sør-Trøndelag, and the valley is well over 100 km long, and the river Gaula runs in the valley in the northwest direction from its origin in the mountains around 30-40 km from the Swedish border. (64/171)

One hears it, one smells it ... a wonderful atmospheric photo in an amazing light. A light which even makes this actually unattractive scenery nearly beautiful. An interesting effect ...

Hi Pablo,
I guess if it wasn't for the amazing light, its management and the way you used it, the image wouldn't have half the impact and risked being too banal. Well, maybe not, as the activity and those very colourful aligned road signs are interesting by themselves.
I guess that the ugliness of what it shows its also one of the reasons that makes it so eye catching. Very well observed and caught!

From the thumbnail I thought it was a car crash scene, very dramatic scene here with all the roadworks going on. It is a very different shot from yourself but I think it is a brilliant scene. A fact of life that we have to put up with when tavelling by road. A good documentry Pablo.

Hello Pablo,

We get very a few image to see of workers or engines that work.
That you can make a series of your old village or the old environment, this is very pleasant for look it.
The white smoke of the crane against the imminent dark sky gives a excellent composition.

A good capture of the crew restoring the road. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the machinery. The subject is well frame. Even if it is backlit the light is enhancing the colors and giving them a good contrast. have a nice day.

It's very hard to guess in what time of the year this image is taken, like the comp with the signs going in one direction and the machines balancing on the other. the blue backdrop works also fine.

It is the strong light which makes all the photograph here and gives a relief so particular to this scene. Indication offers a beautiful key of color in the composition. Not very good for the ozone layer all that !!! Well seen Pablo.

It is an a bit chaotic scene and with a great effect of dynamism and action, the light is very special and the smoke adds more showiness to the photo.
The only thing that we cannot feel with this image is the noise that existed in this work.
Excellent shot, totally opposite to the beautiful and calm landscapes of your habitual work.

haha, I guess that summer didn't finish yet, Pablo ;-) I thought things worked out much better in Norway than what you show here :))) I really like this cahotic picture full of contrasts, bright colors and harsh light, machinery details everywhere. At the same time, the mix of smoke and dust gives a nice mood. Excellent reportage capture.

Your action shot of a construction site is great in vivid colors and bold contrasts. You can feel the beat e.g. that work is done there. You almost shot against the sun at least the sun is at your left. Your choice of position boost the boldness of the shot further. Also sharpness is fine. Well done
