Cows. A natural variation in the summer farm series!

Their life seems mostly to be about eating and digesting, eating and digesting! But they are very curious too in particular when they are young, they always pay attention when someone is coming around with a camera…

I don’t know much about cows so I really can’t tell which species these guys are, but they are quiet common nowadays as I see them all over the countryside.

Statistics show that both the number of cows and the milk production is decreasing over the years. During the period 1997-2007 the number of cows has been reduced by 19.4% while the production of milk is down by 9.0%, which also implies that the average cow is more efficient today as compared to ten years ago.

50-60 years ago these guys would have enjoyed life in a summer farm in the mountains this time of year, but the cows in the image were photographed in the field next to the farm...

----------

[5] A few decades back summer farms were widely used in Norwegian agriculture, and the main purpose was to make better use of the food for the animals. The animals were mostly cows, but also goats were brought to the summer farm. The summer farm season was normally from June to September.

Summer farm production used to be butter and cheese. This reduced the transportation volume and increased durability, which was important since the summer farm was located in a remote area.

Summer farm in Norwegian: Seter.

Those are extremely lazy glances right into my eyes!! i like the colours and textures. The composition is superb too

Hello Pablo. This time no landscape, but resting cows. They look directly into the camera. The cows, the green meadow and the yellow flowers result in a successful combination. Oh it would be nevertheless already summer. Best regards, Wolfgang.

They are very elegant with their yellow earrings! Funny, each has the post.!!!
They seem, indeed, to be very interested by your presence.
Good framing.

Hei Pablo,

It is an excellent cow shot. I guess that it is taken in the evening and or in a cloudy day. A really really good choice since shaded parts could easily become a bit disturbing in pictures like this where there is a great contrast between the white cows and the juicy dark green grass. What surprises me is the very tight enclosure or did you zoom them in? TFS and have nice week-end!

Cheers,

Ulf

Bonjour Pablo

Hi Pablo,
Great photo of the three cows. It's great that they all are looking at us due to their curious nature. Especially the one in the foreground, looking over his shoulder is very nice. They are nicely brought out by the surrounding green grass. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Hi Pablo,

These three beautiful cows arise agreeably in this quite green grass. They seem very interested by the photographer. Good management of the lights. A photograph which supplements well your preceding images on these so typical farms of your area.

With all my friendships and a very good WE,

Hi Pablo,

A nice country scenery with the cow which are relaxing in the field. There is a good contrast between the colors of the cows and the colors of the field. The subject is well framed. The fence is a good addition to the composition. Have a nice day.

Bonsoir, cher Pablo,

Olá Pablo, very nice diferent one. It's like white clouds in a green sky...It's funny to see them looking at you and specially the one in the middle. Excellent note, considering you don't know much about cows :) I like very much the balance of the composition - 3 cows forming a triangle and 3 poles around them.

Variation indeed - from landscapes to fauna, :) Great shot and great note, as usual. I also noticed that cows are quite interested in life - when given a chanse, they look at things and study them. But better not think about it, eh? Or it'll be hard to eat their meet. Sad thoughts.

Hi Pablo!
Seems I've been missing your gallery for some time! This shot is really nice, you captured their expressions really well. Very good composition, even the little flowers are perfect here.

Hi Pablo, I was told once this means it's going to rain. It will rain if all of the cows are lying down, it won't rain if they're all standing. Of course if some are standing and some are lying down, then it might rain and it might not. I think this is the first time I've seen them all lying down. Of course, maybe some are standing, just off camera.

Anyway, you certainly have their attention. They all looked around for the camera. Very good natural colour picked up in this scene. Is there a reason they are held in a narrow area there between the two rows of fencing?

Thanks, John

Hej pablo
"tjynnan" is the word in Jamtland for cow, this specific specie? is beyond my knowledge as well but they doesn't look like the old scandinavians ones, the ones that my grandmother spending her summer together with in the summer farms because they where small and blackspotted and called for Fjälltjynn.

Hi, Pablo. The three cows form a nice triangle amidst the green of the pasture. The contrast is aos very good. The animals seem to be conscious of their role in the image since the three of them are staring at the camera.

Very nice and picturesque rural scene, the white cows with their yellow earrings (the same colors as the dandelions !) on the green field. For an eye more used to city scenes, those peaceful animals resting on the meadow seem something very pleasant and, as I have said, extremely picturesque.

Good morning, Pablo!
Three of a kind! Your fine photo presents these animals as almost pets on the lush meadow. Suddenly a farmers' joke came to my mind:
Two country gals are discussing the cow's problem. "Why their eyes are so sad?" wonders the first one. "How would your eyes look - asks the second, - if they milk you everyday, and bring you to the bull only once a year?.."

I wish you a nice day! What about your weather - is it spring already in your parts?

Thanks for your support on TL.
Don't delude yourself, Pablo! They did'nt sit being lost in admiration for you, they were digesting thier meal!
I just read on Yahoo that cows have 4 stomachs: RUMEN for storing grass half chewed,
RETICULUM where grass is softened more and forms small wads called cuds that returns one by one to the mouth where they are chewed 40 to 60 times and swallowed again, OMASUM where cuds are pressed and broken down further and finally ABOMASUM, where the stomach juices finally digest the broken-down cud.
Your close crop renders the trio much sympathic.
Cheers.
Robert
