Winter in Oppdal [4] Photo

Photographer’s Note

Maybe some of you recognize the church? The observation is probably quite correct, as I used Oppdal church in one of my autumn images (Autumn Meets Winter I – submitted October 8 2008).

This is the third of the ski areas in Oppdal, namely Vangslia Ski Centre, located a few km west of the village. Vangslia used to be my favourite place for skiing in Oppdal...

The WS 1 image shows Mt Vangshø (1365 m) in a wider perspective, photographed from across the valley. If you look closely you will find the church in the lower left corner for reference.

WS 2 shows the slopes map with the location of the three areas Vangslia, Hovden and Stølen.

Oppdal is an alpine village located between Dovrefjell mountain plateau in the south and Trollheimen mountain range to the west. The village is surrounded by majestic mountains, green valleys with idyllic summer farms and fine trout fishing.

Traditionally Oppdal was a place for winter tourism, but in the later years the range of offered activities for summer has increased. Today you can go mountain climbing, take a musk ox safari or go rafting or visit museums and art galleries if that is your preference, to mention a few.

This small series will show the different sides of Oppdal as a winter destination.

Hello Pablo, The steep roofs on these buildings is a good indication that the snow fall here is high, the church is beautiful & characteristic of this area as are the other buildings in particular the red ones, these red ones also add colour.
A beautiful scene, it look like there is good snow cover for skiing. It sounds like it would be an ideal place for a summer vacation.

You show us a really atmospheric winterly landscape here. For me this well visible low treelimit here is amazing. These auburn houses always again give an impression of cosiness and solidity - especially in a winter landscape. The swung line of the horizon here works very well. A somehow inviting view ...

This is a great winter scene! The deep blue sky provides nice contrast for the snow covered scene. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The placement of the church works well here helping to give the shot a sense of direction.

Hi Pablo,
Love the traditional Norwegian architecture nestled peacefully at the bottom of snowy mountainside.
The blue sky really contrast brilliantly with the fresh snow while the lovely old wooden church stands out nicely next to the bright red barn.

The point of view takes our eyes toward the village, the mountains and the nice blue sky which is giving a kind of perspective to the photo. The trees are frming well the village. The reflection of the light on the snow is enhancing the colors of the scenery. have a nice day.

It's good that you have set the church in the foreground and included a large portion of sky, in this way the photo has a greater sense of depth. Besides the red house makes a cromatic contrast both with the snow and the sky. I can see now that the skiing ground if free from trees... Again, a fine mountain scenery.

Hello Pablo,

I have been on a jeep safari but the idea of a musk ox safari sounds far more interesting and exciting!
This shot has an indefinable peace and serenity about it! Maybe it is the ability of the town to nestle so cosily into the snowy hilside which you have cleverly emphasised from your pov - the red building peeping coyly beneath the slope.
As always, the composition is impeccable.
