Autumn Light [3] Photo

Photographer’s Note

The autumn light can be special in a location like mine! On 62 degrees north the days are short during the last months of the year, and the sun is up only for a very few hours each day.

The autumn last year was more colourful than for long. I’m not quite sure why the autumn colours can vary from year to year, but I think someone once told me it has something to do with the temperature.

Here we see a tree in all its glory, colours enhanced by the backlight shining through the leaves. Unfortunately this should prove to be the last day with good photo condition, the next day we were hit by an unusually hard autumn storm that removed most of the leaves from the trees. The workshop image shows the situation two days later…

Typical for this series is the fact there is no distinct subject, as I have tried to capture the autumn light in different situations.

Some of the images in the series are from decisive moments like sunrise and sunset, other are from different times of day. The common factor is the more or less unusual situation, where the light plays with a result not seen so often and created by the low angle and the longer way the light travels trough the atmosphere.

very beautiful image, the light , sharpness, framing and colors are amazing. perfect the contrast between the far and darker background with the golden leaves. here we are facing fall nowadays. Here we haven't a so hard winter like yours (here is only 24 degrees south and 700 meters altitude) anyway in some years we have some low temperatures too. Golden leaves are more evident here in some few trees and the fields that are being harvest.

Comparing the WS photo and this "original" I must say that I like both equally: they convey different mood and both have a very good composition.

Olá Pablo, this was what I tried to capture in Patagonia, last month. I was expecting more colors and specially reds, but I still got fun with some bright yellows like this one. Beautiful to see the gradual changing to the greens as we move to the distance.

Fall colors can be a bit difficult to capture when you are only looking at the colors. I like the simple technique of back light through the leaves. Here we focus only on the tones and shapes of the colorful light. Well done!
