Photographer’s Note
Gjevilvasskamman and Blåhø mountains, taken from Gjevilvatnet lake in the Trollheimen mountainrange.
Gjevilvatnet is a lake in the municipality Oppdal in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway.
It lies in the mountain range Trollheimen.
The lakes elevation about 660 meter, and it is about 18km long. Here is a good fishing for trout.
The Gjevilvatnet lake is well worth a visit, with it's passenger boat (Trollheimen II) and the Vassendsetra mountain farm.
Gjevilvatnet lake collects and stores water for a hydroelectric power plant and before snow melting the level is always kept low. The power plant ("Driva" in Sunndal) and all the artificial waterways are hidden in the rock.
Trollheimen is a beautiful area with spectacular mountains, wide valleys and vigorous vegetation. Most of the DNT-cabins in this area are old, charming timber houses with grass at the roof.
CABINS
Gjevilvasshytta, 710 m. (DNT-member) Jøldalshytta, 740 m. (DNT-member) Trollheimshytta, 540 m. (DNT-member) Kårvatn, 210 m. (DNT-member) Innerdalshytta (private)
How to get there:
First travel to Oppdal, a village along E-6, the main Hwy. connecting Oslo and Trondheim. Oppdal is 120 km south along E-6 from Trondheim. In Oppdal, take Hwy. 70 (direction Sunndalsøra) west 12 km. From here you turn right on a small road to Gjevilvasshytta.
On Dovrefjell and Trollheimen there are countless marked footpaths and accommodation options, incuding staffed and unstaffed cabins.
