Photographer’s Note

This boathouse is where the Student Rowing Club keeps the eights!

Here we see Lake Jonsvatnet still covered with ice so the training has to wait for another couple of weeks…

Lake Jonsvatnet is the water source for the city of Trondheim, and there are rigid restrictions for what can be done in and near the lake. Rowing and fishing for pike are allowed but that is about all.

During WW2 the lake was used as air base by the Germans in April 1940, and several planes were lost when the ice broke. Two of the planes were rescued as late as 2005, a Junkers JU 88 bomber plane and a Junkers JU 52 transporter. There are records of other aircrafts too but they have not been recovered yet.

I’m adding two workshops, showing the JU 52 and the JU 88.

Lake Jonsvatnet is 14.3 km2 and is located 142 m above sea level 20 minutes by car from the center of Trondheim.

A beautiful winter photo from April. Excellent composition with the boathouse and the trees on the right and space on the left hand side for the view over the frozen lake. Very nice light conditions too and I like the couple of small clouds.

Hi, pABLO. If you hadn't told us it was a lake, we might have thought these were snow covered meadows. But the foreground tells us the surface we can see is ice and not snow and there is a small patch of ice near the boathouse where the ice has started melting. You've balanced your composition well with the boathouse and trees on the right and the open space of the lake on the left, which contrasts well with the sky. Good exposure in difficult light conditions.

I hope there is no danger of ecological damage by the remaining aircrafts. Very peaceful winter impression, by the light I think it is not too long before darkness. Good composition viewing along the building and the trees before that balancing the wideness of the frozen lake.

Hi Pablo, very good exposure on this shot of the lake and boathouse. Colour is good, with good detail seen on the boathouse itself and the surrounding brush. The composition works well with the trees and boathouse on the right, but giving room to view the lake with the island. Interesting note. Are we going to see some of these 8's in action in a few weeks?

Olá Pablo, now it looks like a white desert...I wonder if any winter sports can be done on that surface. The boathouse makes a great leading subject, pointing to the vast iced surface. Excellent image quality, as usual.

A small lake but beautiful anytime of the year. The boathouse is well placed in this image so it doesn't obstruct the view of the frozen surface. The brilliant blue Feb. sky contrast beautifully with the frozen snow covered lake and its green islands. The old boat house will in the coming months be very busy with color boats breaking the surface of this lovely lake. The scene is pretty interesting, particularly for the fact that the sun seems so bright and this fact contrasts so incredibly and nicely with all the ice that covers the surface of the lake! A lake in white certainly is something completely different and it almost looks like water, frozen water, but I can imaging how nice it could here in summer. It's a nice winter day with some sunshine. Vibrant colors giving the feeling of cold weather, high sharpness and DOF due to the island in the BG. Well done
