Photographer’s Note
The Last Living Troll Of Norway...
Once upon a time in Roeros, a young man felt so close to nature and the norwegian folklores about old times when a young man called Bor Borson roamed around seeking power and sucess. He stopped to shave and cut his hair, digging deep inside our old traditions. Some say he dug a bit too deep, resulting in a permanent change into the "new" Bor Borson.
Once upon another time a french photographer
named Jean-Baptiste Rabouan (www.rabouan.fr) visited Roeros. He met this "Bor Borson" and gave him the title; "The last living Troll of Norway" and after meeting this man I can't say I disagree...
If you ever go there you should ask for him and visit his shop in Bergstaden! He's amazing!

OK, first of all, I am sure I am not the only one to think of this, but, "It's Hagrid!"
About the photo itself. Because of the very look of the man, the off balancelook of the photo is a strong plus in this case. The tri-X seems to have been a very wise choice here too. Color would not seem so appropriate. I see that this shot was taken only last month, but it appears as though your negative has seen better days. Again, because of the character of the man, the scratches only add to the feel of the shot I think. Perhaps they are intentional? I am planning a trip to Norway next summer(a long ways off to be sure) and hopefuly I will be able to drop in on Bor, her really does look amazing.

Looks very good in a grayscale. He has a great expression on his face; good framing.

Expressive portrait, I like his glimpse but, but, but...I would have totally liked the compo if you had chosen not to frame the upper bright panel saying "Wall of" it pulls my eyes out of the mage and that's really distracting.
The good thing however is the background, when you look carefully you can see pictures of what i suppose Bor at different beard (read tradition) levels (or are they other famous bearded guys or trolls?).
Yes, of course BW ! One can't even discuss that point...
And oh yes, I would sue the lab who processed your neg...

Hi terje, I do not know about the last troll but he does look like Rasputine to me;-) I am glad he smiles, otherwise I probably would cross the street if I ever was to pass close
to him...grrrrrr
It almost looks like an old photograph, with the noise and everything...well done!

I don't find the right words in english to express my feelings looking at this man. This is no more a photo. More than a scene. This is a real TROLL! But he seems to be kind. Not as nasty as the other ones I met in the mountains...

points for the look on they guys face alone.
what was that big guys name in harry potter? yeah need i say more?
exposure and contrast all great and like i said the look on his face makes it great. im thinking what would I have done differently. I think just on the cropping you see the line that is formed by the wall in the background I might have rotated and cropped so that the line of the wall was horizontal to the edge of the photo. that is abotu the only additive suggestion for this photo. DId i mention i love the look on the guys face?

The black and white gives this shot an aged feel. Enjoyed reading the notes too. Very effective.

Very cool image. The man does look kinda like the only troll still left in Norway. Compo wise I really like what you've done here. The background works well with the subject.
