Photographer’s Note
This is spring, just as the last snow is giving in to the sun…
Back in medieval times they tended to build castles, churches and monasteries on hilltops, some farmers seem to like that idea too!
The architecture of the residential unit on the farm is special to this region (Trøndelag in central Norway) and is named after it as the style is called “trønderlån”: Two stories and a loft, all rooms go from wall to wall, and the house is long rather than wide.
And the traditional red barn of course, that is also typical for the region. That is, you may happen to find red barns elsewhere in Norway but in Trøndelag they are ALL red!
This time I have a technical question for you: I’m testing a plug-in for PS and the result when used on this image is shown in workshop. The usual Q is, which one do you prefer – main post or WS?

Hello Pablo,
The upwards point of view is well chosen to give due prominence to the farm buildings, which are nicely outlined against the blue sky. The image has a very pleasing palette of complementary tones. Sharpness is very good. Thanks for sharing.
I prefer the original image, the workshop looks overly sharpened in my eyes, but that may just be my personal preference.

Hi Pablo,
Beautiful composition, captured from the bottom up. Great POV, highlighting the house and barn, built at different angles. The light is excellent, great colors and good sharpness. I prefer the original version, where the grass looks like a green carpet.
Have a nice weekend

Hello Pablo. I am glad to see again a picture to which you have taken with the Nikon D50. The photo is beautiful and natural in its effect. The blue sky and the red of the house complement each other very nicely. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hello, Pablo!
I find the framing very interesting to show these houses on the hill, with two thirds of the picture with the grass. Colors are great, and so are the houses! Beautiful composition!
About the question, I think this original version has more natural colors. Haven't you overdone with the sharpness in the workshop? It sometimes creates some white edges, I don't know...

Hi Pablo,
it's a nice start for the spring season. You have divided the imagem very well. The buidings on the top and all that field that leads us to there. Very good light and colors, naturally managed. I like this very much!

Hi Pablo,
First the question, I prefer this original picture and not the WS, which lacks colours and looks oversharpened to me.
I know there are a lot of red barns in Norway too. In Sweden all barns are red, and they are painted with the famous Falu red paint. Is that also the case in Norway?
But this picture really shows the majestic farms that are very common in Norway. Another good reason to build on top of the hills is probably that the risk for moist from underneath is not so high.
Kind regards
Gunnar

This is a nicely composed shot of this farm with the sloping hill leading the eye up to the farm. The lighting and colors are great as is the photo's sharpness.

Hi Pablo,
The length of the field is giving depth to the composition. Rge point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the house and of the farm building. The nice blue sky is sending a light which is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Pablo,
really a springtime atmosphere of this lovely farm and barn on top of the green hill with the snow melting. The large space you dedicated to the lawn with the small fence below gives a fine sense of depth which otherwise would have been lost.
If you want my opinion the workshop is no good: too much contrast and oversharpening, so the result is irreal.
Leave the photo like it is or maybe just decrease a bit the highlights in the levels tool.
Have a nice sunday,
Donato

Hello Pablo,
looks like I am a bit late with expressing my opinion, but better late than never ;)
I've compared both the WS version and this variant... I like this one better: it looks warmer and ... well... more "comfortable", if I may say so :)
On the whole, excellent composition with a good choice of low POV.
But it looks like autumn in some way! it's because of the colours, of course...
Concerning the Photoshop, I myself use Photoshop CS4, and I find it very useful. But once getting used to PS it's impossible to switch to any other editing software :)
Kind regards
and wishes of a good week!

Bonjour, mon ami Pablo,

Hello Pablo,
To be frank with you I prefer the quality of this photograph to your treatment in WS which, I find, has too many sharpness, the colors here are more natural. Besides that I appreciate this framing in low-angle shot which gives value to this farm. The luminosity is very pleasant and soft. Pretty panorama on this… red barn, so typical in your gallery. Well done Pablo.

Hi Pablo,
In comparing your two photos, the WS makes me wish for a little more sharpness in the primary post, but I agree with the concensus that the plug-in has oversharpened the photo. If it doesn't allow you to decrease the sharpness, It's probably not worth purchasing.
As always, your note is full of interesting information that is well illustrated by your composition; how interesting that the rooms go from wall-to-wall. I wonder about the reason for this; perhaps it's a matter of allowing lots of daylight in each room coupled with plenty of space and wood.

Hello Pablo, First I prefer this version, I think the WS version has several negatives 1} contrast is overdone, having a negative effect on the colour of the grass, 2) Not sure but I think perhaps it is over sharpened especially in FG. What do you think about my thoughts on it. This one works really well, with several points of interest, the red barn, the house on the left & the melting snow all come together very nicely, light, colour & clarity are excellent with just the correct amount of sharpness. I find snow in March interesting,
Thank you
