The Valley of My Childhood [5]

I was thirteen when I left Gauldalen behind, after living there since I was born… In this series it is my aim to show the diversity and daily life in this area, during all seasons of the year.

This image is from around 40 km up the valley, the farms get smaller and abandoned farms more numerous the longer from the fjord we go. Some of the farmers in this part of the valley have found an attractive business related to the river Gaula, namely salmon fishing and anglers from all over the world are a good source of income during the three months season.

The hillsides get steeper and the valley narrower the longer up the valley we go, in some places there is hardly room for more than the river, the road and the railway! This time of year the river is growing large to take away the water from melting snow in the mountains.

Forestry is also an important source of income in the upper parts of Gauldalen, and many industrial enterprises are using lumber as raw material.

------

Gauldalen is the main valley in the central part of Norway in the county Sør-Trøndelag, and the valley is well over 100 km long, and the river Gaula runs in the valley in the northwest direction from its origin in the mountains around 30-40 km from the Swedish border.

Hi Pablo,

You lived in a very beautiful place. I'd love to stay there and appreciate this view. I like your compo with the diagonal line and the tree at the left. The haze also created an interesting atmosphere. Well done!
Regards,
Carlos

Hi Pablomito,
This place is beautiful. I like the diagonal composition in foreground and those misty hills at the back. Interesting wooden bars, may also be good if you close up a little bit. Excellent shot.

Hi Pablo! Immense the extent of view of eye! Marvellous the opinion with the foggy mountains in the extent, the river in the depth and the first level with the simple but beautiful setting impress I like the countryside of your region,

Hi Pablo,
this one tells about the weather conditions in the morning and about the hills and mountains around the valley. The foreground with a bot more sharpness and the fence as border to get softer is well done here. The tree is the one detail we need.

Hi Pablo,
great continuation of this dedicated series The Valley of My Childhood, is a great photography. The immense depth of field through winding mountains is excellent and seem watercolors.
The light is very smooth and dynamic simultaneously. The wood fence crossing the image in diagonal helps to consolidate the image.

Best regards,

Hello Pablo,

This combination of note and photograph comprise a beautiful photoessay of your world. The gentle slope in the foreground, set against the valley in the background. I reminds me a little of the sites along the train ride to Flem. Warm regards, and have a good weekend.

Hi Pablo,
Beautiful landscape with a fence and a small tree, lovely naturel colors always well composed and presented , Excellent POV. and details , amazing view Pablo, Excellent done.
Michel

Hi, Pablo. You've chosen a very good POV which shows us the meanders of the river and the succession of hills. This creates a very good depth in the picture. I like the green foreground and the wooden fence that creates a good diagonal line. But I must amdit I'm a little disapointed with the sky that looks too hazy to me. I suppose this is due to the difficult light conditions.

Hi my friend,
what a nice compositon with endless foggy hills. The fences in front is a wonderful details.again a superb scene valley of your Childhood.good POV and nice sharpness.very well done.thanks for sharing

Hi Pablo. We have a salmon fishery here now, after many years of releasing salmon into a handful of rivers in the South Island they have become self sustaining and provide for recreational anglers and some commercial fishermen. Great photo. I love the way the river curls away into the mist. Well composed and thanks for sharing.

Hello Pablo,

Indeed the springtime is in Belgium all more green than in your country.
Lovely landscape picture with pleasant colours.
This image gives a fine feeling through the soft colours and the green gloom about the mountains.
Very well done, thanks for sharing.

Have a nice sunday,
John.

Hello Pablo
Oh it's an old photo as I see - You took it almost two years ago... I like it - love sharp foreground and unsharp background, their other colouring, and contrast between hills and valley covered by the fog and the second part of picture where is no fog. It's fine that it's a fence which nice shared the composition.
Regards

Hi Pablo,

There's nothing I can add to what so many qualified members had already pointed out here but congratulations for those 13 years you lived in Gauldalen which, looking at this so nicely done picture, seems like one of those magical places of fairly tale books.

God ukedager!
Regards,
JR

Pablo, this view is a normal view to you I suppose but to me it is an unusual one. I think that is because I would think of your country as fjords, or snowy forests, and these preconceived notions of a place are exactly why TE is so good, it opens our eyes more to what the reality of a place is. Fine capture.

Greg

Hello Pablo. Dreamy perspective creating beautiful tiers of the mountain. The green pasture with wooden fence contrasting well with the leafless tree sits on the sweet spot. Just stunning and very well expected from Pablo. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Hi Pablo,
Beautiful landscape, from a great POV, in a composition that has a good depth of field and an excellent contrast between the green meadow in FG and the valley that is fading away among the mist, forming a few interesting layers and a good range of gray tones.

Hi Pablo,
What an incredible view of this lovely narrow river valley with the winding river snugely flowing blowing between the mountains. The misty sky gives this image a dreamy feel. I like the contrast between the brilliant green foregrond and the muted misty backgrond.

Hello Pablo,

Mountains don't need to be very high to create a nice dramatic effect. The view here is beautiful with the low mountains creating good saturation of the background. The haze or cloudy conditions add a nice perspective to the moment. Well done Pablo.

Fantastic pablo.

Hi Pablo,
I always have a mixed feeling when visiting my birth place as I tend to miss the good old days so looking down at this valley must be more interesting for you as it is for me. I like the presence of the broken fence as it suggested time and the changes that is taking place here. Well done!!

Happy recollection.

The mist actually works well to emphasise the several layers of mountains in the background, as they fade as we get further away. The sloping foreground with the broken fence works well to frame the view beyond. Well done

Hi Pablo, this is a very cool shot. I like when you can get different levels of hill seen in a fog or mist. Normally the different levels will include 3 or 4 different hills. Depending on how I count this, I'm seeing 7 or 8. Very nicely done. To do this, is this straight from the camera, as I imagine any work in levels or curves would destroy this effect? The composition is good with the river running between the hills, and I like that fence, and the single tree on the left. The grass up front sets a base for the shot. Very nice.

Thanks, John

Like this one, besudes the demarcation of lines in the fore ground with added beauty of leafless tree and dark fences, the story in the Bg is brillint. The meandering river, distance mountains of a few tones , pestel sky to give calm and peace, and exciting contrast. Gret composition and well thought and highly skill eyes can do this plus a nice subject.
Great knowing you.
