Photographer’s Note

Jostetal Glacier (Jostedalsbreen) captured 1986 (scanned from a negative). I'm interested how it looks like today.

Jostetal (Jostedalen) is a valley at Sogn og Fjordane in Norway. 10'000 years ago Norway was still covered by an ice sheet, a remnant of the last major ice age, which culminated 18'000 years ago. Then the climate improved, and deglaciation started. The glacial retreat left much evidence of the development of landscape, vegetation and animal life. Reconstruction of glacial and post glacial history has been carried out during the last century. Several kinds of scientists, both national and international, come to Jostedalen, strongly attracted by this magnificent eldorado of well developed, well shaped and so far mostly well preserved landscape forms.

Hi Achim,

The curve of the road is an asset to the composition. The point of view takes our eyes toward the glacier in the background which is giving depth to the photo. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors of the scenery. Have a nice day.

Hey Achim,

A very nice scan. The nature is unmistakably Scandinavian. The color and lighting contrast is a good addition the the photo. A sensisble composition with the winding road with the left/right side of the road notion.

I admire the technical quality and even more so in regard the image is 23 years old!
The point of view is effective, giving the viewer the feeling he is heading for the glacier...

Sorry for my delay to answer your kind words, Achim.
This near road in the valley can be taken for another glacier that will reach the distant one!
You managed well the exposure on this cloudy day because details are well visible in highlights as well as in darker areas of this spectacular scenery.
