Photographer’s Note
This photo was taken from the Flamsbana as we entered Flam. The Flåm Railway is one of the worlds steepest railway lines on normal gauge. The gradient is 55/1000 on almost 80% of the line, i.e. a gradient of one in eighteen. The journey runs from Flåm to Myrdal covering 20km and assending 2838 feet. The train passes through 20 tunnels and pass countless waterfalls and magnificent scenery. At Myrdal you can connect to the Bergen - Oslo railway.
This river leads to the Fjord where our cruise ship was docked.

Hi Asa,
Your photo has just added a new place to my list of places to visit. In your well-framed photo, the town looks like an idealized version of a Norweigian town, with the houses clustered at the curve of the river, the green meadows ending abruptly at the soaring mountains... and you saw it from a train. I love trains!! The color and detail are excellent as well.

Nice photograph of what appears to be a nice place. As for the colors and the contrast being a bit soft as mentioned below...maybe just a tad but not much....boosting the contrast to much would probably make the shadowed part of the mountian on the left un-natural, I don't know.
The worksop version cuts out the sky, which, in my opinion, is an important part of the perspective....just my two bits worth.
Great Job.

Hi Asa - beautiful view, though I would crop a little tighter, the blurry tree makes it obvious that this was taken from a moving vehicle, the left side overall is somewhat redundant and the little bit of sky is unnecesssary, Didi's workshop is exactly the way it should be cut.

Hello Asa,
you have a fine gallery and it was difficult to chose but I didn't pick this one just because it is a featured photo but because of the magnificent view you give us. The flowing river runs well through the image and the pretty & small houses sit well on its banks; smooth and calm in contrast to the hardness of the mountains. Good light, colours and a great pov. A fine image, well done.

Hi Asa:
Wonderful perspective of a beautiful valley. I would have been tempted to take a shot from farther down, but I think you did right shooting it from higher up. It makes the village look like a scale model. I love the perspective of the river winding through the picture. It does seem a tad overexposed, but otherwise beautiful.

Bonjour Asa,

The way the S shaped river enters the photograph makes the eyes wander into the story, which takes place in this idyllic little northern town. Beautiful shot. My only comment would be about the light. Though the shadows are longer (probably due to the time of the year and latitude) than usual for that hour, would it be even better if it was taken at an earlier hour around sunrise? All the same, very nice photography. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Asa!
I feel very nostalgic about mountain sceneries, although I haven't been to the mountain very often! Mostly a remembrance of childhood tales!
This photo shows exactly what I imagined a mountain village to look like, with such few houses tidily placed around the church, and along the river.
I like the POV with the village in the valley, the mountain side in the shade, and the rest of the mountain in the background, that makes me want to go treking!

HI Asa. Wonderful landscape, great colors and definition. It looks almost unreal. Very well done. Paulo

Hello Asa
An outstanding view over the valley that features the beautiful curves of the winding river!
The infinite impression of depth is enhanced by trees at foreground and by those farm buildings at mid-plane.
You've been seated on the appropriate side of train for a grandiose picture!
Best regards.
Robert

Never thought to write something about this photo, but hey! Decided to do it now, well, it's really one of your best ones. And I remember the place very good, I saw it from the same Flomsbana train. Weather in my case was significantly worse, that is.
Great photo!

I just spotted this in your featured photos, Asa. A very picturesque scene indeed, and excellent timing on your part to grab this shot between the trees as the train passed by. Sharpness is good for 1/160 from a moving train. I would however have used curves (or the shadow/highlights tool in PS) to bring out a little more detail in the rockface that is in shadow. Cheers . . . David

Hello Asa,
Un paysage magnifique qui ressemble plus à une maquette qu'à la réalité.
Le point de vue est très bien choisi. Par contre, je trouve la partie sombre vraiment trop présente dans cette image.

Olá Asa,
I love the green tones of the grass and the hilly landscape. The other TE friends have said all, but I think this photo can bear another two points ... ;-)

Magical place! It's hard to believe how tidy this place is. Imagine living in such a place. The curve of the river is so graceful, it leads the eye through the shot. You've shown enough mountain to give evidence of the steepness of the canyon. Very lovely place and wonderful composition. Thanks, Judy

Superb valley, a tiny bit over-sharpened and desaturated but a great composition nonetheless.
I wonder what a vertical shot would have been like on that one, hopefully showing the top part of the mountains...

Hello Asa, I can see I am about three years late commenting on this picture, but seeing that you had visited me, I decided to check out your photos. This one is delightful to view. There is plenty of images here which come together in an excellent scene. The village with the church and the lovely river seem to say come visit me. Nicely done. Regards, Roger
