Photographer’s Note
I know this is a bit of, if I'd brought my tripod this would be a great deal better. I hope you like it anyway.

Hello Halgeir,
Handheld for an exposure of 1 sec is indeed a risky business!
Good things are the composition, the lines and the colours... Bad is of course the lack of sharpness, in particular sad for the rocks in front!
The sky comes out quite well though...

I feel like I'm drunk..:) Hehe
Good composition but as you say, it would have been a lot more interesting with a tripod;)

Hei 1/2 Geir
This photo gives the true essence of a cold place....and no I will not go swimming!
The overall quality of the photo pulls down my impression, like Pablo already has pointed out, the sky is good but since the land and sea part of this photo is such a significant part I simply don't feel the sky is enough to make it up.

A good one halgeir. A bit dark but still a moody shot, good use of the details - sharpness could have been better I think..

Hello Halgeir, in this image I like the panorama and the good composition with good lines and balanced elements, even the quality is poor the atmosphere is still good, but, next time bring with you the tripod :)

Halgeir,
Mange tak for sharing.
Rather than making snarky remarks abt it not being "technically correct" I prefer to think of it as a painting. And as such I like what you have painted with your optical brush! It reminds me a lot of scenes I see here in Nova Scotia on the "other" edge of the Atlantic! I imagine the diving board to be an incomplete Inukshuk that points the way!
God yul my friend,

Hello there!
I would rather disagree with Your oppinion, Halgeir, that the photo would be a great deal better should you use a tripod. I think it won't be. For me it is great as it is.
We can try to evaluate each photo one makes in two categories - technical and artistic. I say that the technical side is not so important. After all - there are only several strict rules, that everyone can follow after reading one or two books about photography, and thus - start making technically perfect photos.
Or buy a much more expensive camera =).
But for me - it is not what the photography is all about. I am not a machine which would for instance asses the sharpness level and set a score of 6.7 in 10 points scale, then evaluate the saturation of colours, and give another points, and so on and on - through several more categories, doing a job a computer can do, giving in the end the average score.
For me - much more important issue is the ability of the photographer to actually SEE things, and - what is even more, "catch" those things in a way he would like other people to see them - giving those people not only a set of pixels which form a particular pattern, but also something more - a feeling, an impression (of joy, sadness, coldness, warmth etc.). I think it is much more difficult, since you cannot learn it from a book. And this is what makes the photography an art.
For me - this photo deserves those 2 points I give. Apart from the fact that it is very well composed and balanced (both shapes and colours), it has this "something more" which made ma look at it for several seconds longer, and think - about that place, was it cold then? If the storm was coming? Who knows? I would have nothing against having this photo framed and hung on one of the walls in my home.
And I would like to swim there - especially in such weather =).
If there was a warm cabin with a lit fireplace, waiting for me, of course.
Happy New Year!

Hi Halgeir,
This is nicely composed and you obviously have a good eye for a nice scene. Beyond that, things start to go a little bit wrong. As you mentioned, and with an exposure that long, a tripod would have helped a lot. Not having it has caused some major quality issues and it almost looks like the camera wasn't focused. Sorry to have to say that because I hate being negative.
Although this is obviously a relatively dark scene, there would have been other ways of overcoming the problem of low light. There are, however, other things that are really good about the pic. The colours have come out very nicely and the lines are all good. Fortunately, the camera movement doesn't seem to be so obvious in the sky, which still looks fine.
I just hope you get that camera back soon so you can keep on presenting pics of your country! After all, that's what TE is all about. :-)
Hugs,
Tony
