Photographer's Note

The first snow of the winter, in Rogaland, fell on December 19th 2009. By early January the temperatures had plummeted to a low of minus 16C, and the fjords and edges of the sea froze. These ice crowns are caused by the differences between high tide and low tide. The tidal movements here, at the innermost reaches of Hafrsfjord, are relatively small, and the wind-speeds had been minimal, resulting in small 'crowns' of ice.
