Photographer’s Note
Planet Earth: Ocean
I like to share this one with you.
We had the last day a strong gale along the coast. So I decided to go out to the sea already at 05.30 this morning to get a fresh photo of the rough October weather.
My nearest opportunity is the outer Oslofjord, app. 100 km from where I live - and then a small hike of some 45 minutes to face the open ocean.
With gale, rain and hail not the best conditions for the camera - neither for my GoreTex cloths - wet right to the skin. But very, very FUN asking me. I had the tripod with me and it had to be kept very firm to the ground to not blow away. What a morning. Not oustanding this photo but sure typical for the conditions out there.
Took me some 8hrs the whole trip and of course your feedback is always welcome ;-)
For more from this morning - there is a photo set right here >>
A small dedication to another TE friend who seems unsure what to post from time to time..
OCEAN GEOGRAPHY
There are 328,000,000 cubic miles of seawater on earth, covering approximately 71 percent of earth's surface.
By volume, the ocean makes up 99 percent of the planet's living space- the largest space in our universe known to be inhabited by living organisms.

Hello Jack,
I happened to have just opened Trekearth when your photograph of the rugged seashore logged on. The waves crashing in are exceptionally dramatic and the scene extremely powerful. In reading your note I was also impressed by your dedication. What your ancestors, the Vikings, saw and lived with!
Warm regards,

Hi Jack,
A great shot. One can feel the power and the strenght of the incoming waves under this threathening sky.
This is what I sometimes miss here in Luxemburg, the sea in winter when the wind hurls it gainst the shore.
Thanks for getting up so early for this picture.

Hallo Jack!
Again a very impressive one - with a great visual impact! This agitated sea under these clouds - magnificent! This photo really was worth to get up so early ;-) Especially for me, a landlubber - most impressive!
Greetings from very wet Germany!

Hello Jack,
Merci pour cette image toute fraîche. L'océan semble se déchaîner sur la côte.
Les vagues attaquent le bords de mers. Je peux respirer l'air frais d'ici.
Merci pour ce bon bols d'embruns.

As a sea and sailing enthusiast I'm always fascinated by a stormy sea (while I'm safe at land!) so I appreciated your picture very much. I know it's not easy to shoot in those conditions, I've tried it myself and the wind was blowing me down! What a rage in your picture!
I've also seen your collection in flickr and there are really fine. Thank you for sharing!
