The well known local profile Christian Radich, here bathing in the evening light at Aker Brygge, has quite a colourful history. The full rigger was commissioned as a commercial schoolship in 1937, taken over by the navy when the second world war begun, only to be confiscated by Germany in 1940. She was used as a submarine depot ship and in 1944 was taken back to Germany to serve as a schoolship for the navy.
She was sunk in a bombing raid on the Flensburg docks in 1945 but was later salvaged and delivered back to Norway for a complete and expensive overhaul. She has starred in the movie Windjammer and the television series "The Onedin Line". In her later years she has been available for charter and since 2005 the Norwegian navy has once again begun using her for the schooling of new cadettes.
