Photographer's Note
To the left the new worlds biggest cruise ship MS Freedom of the Seas on her maiden trip to Oslo.
To the right worlds biggest car ferry MS Fantasy.
It was a big event in the harbour yesterday as the new cruiser had just anchored up and as the jumbo ferry MS Fantasy was to leave the harbour she made a swing to the big cruiser to honour the 'newcomer'.
A grey day, maybe not ideal for shooting, still you can enjoy this meeting of the biggest ships in their classes.
Here some facts of the ladies:
Data of the MS Freedom of the Seas
160.000 gross reg.tons
339 m length
64 m height
4.375 passengers
Data of the MS Fantasy
74.500 gross reg.tons
224 m length
60 m height
15 decks
42.400 hp
22 knots
160 m promenade/shopping street
966 cabins
2.750 passengers
750 cars

Great timed shot Jack,
Nicely composed to have the two giants in the frame. It sure is excellent to see them both together.

Only the lamp in the middle is a small defect, the image itself as great as it could be :)

Wow, what an event, and a good idea to include al the other watchers in the foreground. A pity about the lamp, a PoV to right, leaving less prominent might have helped, but a small niggle.

Hi Jack
I like your shot with the two "giants". The cloudy weather makes a very fine atmoshere, like a fairytale. Excellent note. Thanks for this exclusive photo!

Hola Jack, despite the cloudy day I find this shot very good. Great memories, my cruise was parked in the same spot last August when we visited Oslo. We also had a rainy day.
Thank you for sharing.
Regards.

Hi Jack,
Wow! This is really a TENews picture! I heard about the MS Freedom of the Seas on the radio this morning and now I have a picture of it on my screen. Too bad the weather was rather cloudy and grey, but the size of these ships is nonethe less very impressive!

Bonjour mon ami Jack,
Contrairement à toute attente, j'aime beaucoup cette prise de vue, il émane une vision fantasmagorique avec ce ciel gris et ces deux majestueux bateaux qui vont gagner des mers lointaines.
Très belle composition.
Amitiés.

Very nice to see this TE-exclusive presentation, Jack. Good showing of the two magnificent boats whose V-shaped alignment relative to each other is an enhancing factor for your framing. I also like the inclusion of foreground and on the upside, I think the rainy weather adds an interesting character to the shot. Greetings from Milan.

Impreesive, the M/S Freedom of The Seas !! A few months ago, I saw a report TV about her construction and the problems encountered by the engineers because of her size.
The biggest hurtigruten ships with 16.000 tons are very, very small compare to those monsters [?]
Your picture is interesting with the photographers in foreground, the town in bacground.
