Photographer’s Note

Jotunheimen (English: The Home of the Giants) is a mountainous area of roughly 3,500 km² in Southern Norway. Jotunheimen is a part of the long Scandinavian Mountains range. The 29 highest mountains in Norway are in Jotunheimen, including the very highest - Galdhøpiggen (2469 m). Jotunheimen straddles the border of the counties Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane.

The Jotunheimen area contains the Jotunheimen National Park, covering 1,151 km² since 1980. The mountain range Hurrungane is inside the national park with the sharpest peaks in Jotunheimen. Adjacent to the national park border is Utladalen Nature Reserve covering the valley Utladalen and Falketind among other mountains.

Jotunheimen is very popular among hikers and climbers, and the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association maintains a number mountain lodges in the area, as well as marked trails between the lodges and to some of the peaks.

Welch ein Kontrast zwischen dem satten Grün der Wiesen und Wälder und den nackten Felsen im Hintergrund! Wieder ein faszinierendes Foto mit einer wunderbaren Tiefe. Eine Landschaft zum Staunen ...
Es geht also auch ohne gelb und rot! ;-)

Where's the red? The red in the foreground? Where is it?

No. No red at all. But what a lovely shot. Incredible detail and sharpness in that impressive mountain range. And what lovely subtle colours. This makes me just want to walk into the picture, up to those trees, and soak in the lovely scenery and peacefulness.

I wonder if it was this sort of scenery which inspired Edvard Grieg?

Good and stable framework, comfortable composition and sharp focusing in depth as usual. Blue/green fresh clor contarst is marvelous as usual too.

Hello Gunnar,
the lush greenness invites the viewer to walk into the frame. The green seems greener because of the contrast between the foreground and the harsher mountainside beyond.

Hi Gunnar, It seems a nice place for hiking. I have a fraight of height so not all mountans are good for me but here without precipies it would be pleasant to go to a mountain lodge. July and still some snow in the higher part. Nice photo.

A beautiful and very Scandianvian mountain landscape. The bog and the birch trees are great and contributes to that it looks very familiar to me. Excellent colours and a really well-comosed picture. TFS and have a nice evening!

so, sometimes there's no need to travel far away to Switzerland to see beautiful mountains :) The beauty is almost at hand.

The Norwegian mountain landscapes don't get more typical than this!
You got almost everything in one frame; the bog, the mountain birch, the rocky mountain with remains of snow, the tree line, the only thing missing is the lake...
Excellent colour reproduction, sharp fine details!
