Winter detail in Black&White Photo

Photographer’s Note

Outside my window the snow is falling down for the 3rd day this week.
By this a little detail of a winter landscape with just a tree and the first light of the morning after a night with some fresh snow. This time a version in bw as sometimes also that may work for a nature photo..

I think the black and white works very well for this image. I like the placement of the tree to the side and you have a great dramatic sky. Lovely... I can feel winter from this image.

Striking image with a dramatic sky. Would love to see the origional if taken in colour, but I'm thinking that the black and white version would work probably better in this case anyway.

G'day Jack.
I really love this. I'm a fan of B&W and this is a great example. The strong contrast makes the feeling of winter even more powerful. The dark sky, the lone tree fully exposed to the elements. Well done.

Ce paysage est quasiment surnaturel ! Le noir et blanc apporte une dimension très particulière à ton image ! Le ciel amène son lot de surprise ! Il est intéressant de voir un ciel nuageux et un sol éclairé par le soleil très bas !

From funny to sublime, u take us the full distance in the space of 2 photos. BW conversion is good with nice tonalities.

Hi Jack,

You chose for BW, normally is BW always very difficult through the two colours system, I've 35 year worked with black and white, this is not easy but I find your picture very well through the strong line in middle of your picture. Very well compositio too!

Hi, Jack. Black and white works very well indeed here. It offers excellent contrast and allows to avoid the brightness of the snow which is sometimes present in colour pictures. The tree in the foreground creates a very good depth in the picture. A simple but very effective composition.

This photo only goes to show, that you don't have to go far from home to get a great shot. For me I like how the eye starts in the lower foreground, then to the distant hills, then back again following the dramatic sky. Rodney
