Another meeting in my valley
There are some details that may interest in this photo of the metting with this very big reindeer bull.
I could see him coming over the moors some distant from my position, out hiking in my valley, in the central mountains of Norway (calling it “my valley” as I have my cottage up here for the last 20 years).
By his impressive horn with all the antlers I understood this bull was old and also alone.
Even if he was aware of me it did not seems to matter
- from seeing him some 300 meters away he closed in and was finally passing only some 20 meters from my position.
Quite an unusual behaviour as reindeers often avoid being to close to humans. And of course this is wildlife at the best: No park or protected region, no fences or any hindrance between him and me – just a meeting in the open nature up in the mountains.
Study his fur and you will see the old bull is changing from winter fur to summer fur (around head/neck).
..just another meeting in my valley :-)
We had good eye contact.. the reindeer and me: have a look at my workshop >>

This entry can be interpreted in many different ways.
In our language there is a saying : "don't start any deerish discussion" . Which means, do avoid any nonesense discussions.
From time to time, different discussions at TE forums, reminds me to that !
Anyway, nice and informative entry.
TFS and best regards

Hi Jack. Lucky you, such a meeting is a privilege not too many can enjoy. Nice capture and thanks for sharing.
Have a good Sunday, Paul.

Looks like a typical postcard from Norway;)
I also like the WS, but as a composition this one is much better, great sharpness although it's a quick creature, they are changing their furs now so it is also well depicted,

Bonjour, cher Jack,
Philippe

Indeed it's a very nice meeting specially with a 200 mm lens. I think that the WS picture should be another main picture.
Very good catch.

So as the trees in the spring and summer assume a new mantle of foliage, the dear doff their own mantle of winter fur. Your excellent shot is complemented by a very good note. I looked at the eye contact you presented as a ws, that could have led to neither of these shots ever being presented. That is like saying, "Captain Cook laid eyes on Hawaii on his final voyage, and it was the last place he laid his eyes on." (The natives slaughtered him and ate him.)

Nice to see the reindeer bull in its natural environment, rather than a zoo. Good framing with plenty of room at right for it to move into. Tfs!
