This was our lucky day in Norway, sunshine at last! We could make a boat trip on the famous fjord at Geiranger and enjoy all the famous views. There will be more pictures later!
Geiranger is a small tourist town in the western part of Norway in the region called Sunnmøre in the municipality of Stranda. It lies at the head of the Geirangerfjord, which is a branch of the Storfjord. The nearest city is Ålesund. Geiranger is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, and has been named the best travel destination in Scandinavia by Lonely Planet. Since 2005, the Geirangerfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This third biggest cruise-ship port receives 140 - 180 ships during the four-month tourist season. Several hundred thousand people pass through every summer, and tourism is the main business for the 250 people who live there permanently. There are five hotels and over ten camping sites. The tourist season stretches from May to early September; in the off-season the pace and activity are reduced to that of a normal small Norwegian town.
This is MS Deutschland, a German-registered cruise ship owned and operated by Peter Deilmann Cruises and registred at Neustadt in Holstein. She is decorated in the Art Deco style made famous by such classic ocean liners as the SS Ile de France and SS Normandie. The Deutschland was launched in 1998. She carries 513 passengers and 260 crew members. She has a gross tonnage (GT) of 22,400 tons and has seven passenger accessible decks.

It was a relief to hear that you had at least one day of sunshine during yout vacations. Here you have a perfectly blue sky and a brilliantly white ship. With some imagination I could see the ship as inscribed among a number of triangles all pointing towards it - her. By the way, it looks like the MS Deutschland is pretty close to shallow water.
I'll be looking forward to the other pictures from this marvellous place.

Hi Gunnar. All in white. Dream boats must be white. No matter where they come, they attract attention. The MS Germany has anchored so that the travelers get to see something. The view of the mountains around is fantastic. The photo pleases me very well. Regards, Wolfgang.

It is very attractive shot of Norwegian fjord. You captured excellently combination of beauty of nature with human creation such as cruise ship.

I``m living far away from any coast and I``m allways fascinated seeing such huge ships!!!!
Perfect placement ,a bit out of the center. From your POV it``s hard to believe this ship took it``s way through the foreground.
Excellent composition in great colors and quality.

danyy (0) 2010-07-26 12:45
je suis impressionné par ce bateau qui semble flotter là où il n'y a pas de profondeur. C'est bien trompeur.
Superbes ces couleurs franches et cette mise au point très précise.
Un bateaiu impressionnant dans ce fjord.

You have sun at last in Norway and I have all day rain in Romania... MAybe I would prefer to see the Geirangerfjord without such big cruisers. Excellent view of the big ship and surrounding mountains. I am looking forward to seeing more photos of Geiranger in sun and from this low POV.
Warm regards Malgorzata

Ce grand bateau blanc s'impose dans ce paysage comme une évidence.
J'aime l'impression de voir un mirage surgir dans un cadre de verdure.

Looks a splendid ship to go on a tour of the fjords. The composition is well framed and has lovely lighting and pleasing natural colours. Sharpness is excellent. I look forward to seeing the pictures from your trip.
npecanhuk (56382) 2010-07-27 2:59
Wow! That's a very beautiful and attractive picture!
Sharpness, exposure, pov, dof, colors, pp, contrasts and, above all, composition are all excellent here!
Nature is magnificent and the presence of that cruiser is a ral highlight!
TFS - congratulations!
windosil (1158) 2010-07-27 3:24
What a wonderful effect sunshine has! Everything in your photo suggests the stillness of a hot morning, even the little waves are not bothering much. And the ship kindly provides your trademark touches of red.
We had exceptional sunshine that day, too.
ktanska (22712) 2010-07-27 3:44
Perfect PoV for this shot showing riverflow in the foreground and the cruise ship anchored on a fjord. The place is perfectly surrounded by mountains. Excellent contrast, you have avoided overexposure on the white ship too.
jplebrun (21208) 2010-07-27 4:16
superbe ce bateau ancré dans cette baie, les couleurs sont magnifiques, bon travail.
ellelloo (6570) 2010-07-27 4:40
Good that you got also sun during your trip in Norway!
A wonderful shot with a good composition, great rendition of colours and excellent control of light. It will be interesting to see more photos from this famous fjord.

Wow, Superb picture, dear friend, beautiful vivid colours, and wonderful these little waves, fantastic blue sky.
Ascot (325) 2010-07-27 14:27
Good evening Gunnar. This has to be one of the most beautiful fjords in Norway, and you have had the best weather to see it. There hardly seems to be room for this cruise ship, and it is precariously near some shallows; but the main waterway is hidden from view. The ship almost, but not quite, dwarfs the grandeur of the mountains and the small settlement on the hills in the background.
I wonder if you were on the trip 'Norway in a Nutshell? I am really envious. We keep intending to do this part of Norway, but when Adrian has time off work, we feel that the UK and the family calls to us - so Norway remains unexplored.
Beautiful work my friend. You have strengthened my resolve to take a trip to this area.
Warm greetings, Amelia
avallaunius (6) 2010-07-28 1:46
very good vivid colors contrast well with the bright white of the huge ship
siolaw (37642) 2010-07-28 4:40
It is quite surprising to see such a big ship and the small looking river in the foreground.
The picture is bright and colourful with excellent general quality
Kielia (21533) 2010-07-28 5:35
this is really a fantastic impression with an incredibly beautiful light. As already mentioned, it is due to the amazing colors among the most fascinating images from this famous fjord. Congratulation!
bmukherjee (1512) 2010-07-28 10:18
Hello again Gunnar,
A very unexpected shot - the scenery of the fjord seems a bit at odds with the massive ship. Nice cruise, by the way!
The light on the photo is good - front lit, and illuminating the boat in the dark fjord.
bukitgolfb301 (32680) 2010-07-28 13:10
Hi my dear Gunnar
Another wonderful senery/vessel shot!
Perfect framework and well considered composition as usual. Marvelous bright color contarst and allocation just from summer season. oustanding sharpness! Blesssing on your finest job. Thanks for sharing with your finest job and have a good mid-week, best regards,
asajernigan (19669) 2010-07-29 9:07
This is a great shot of this ship in the beautiful Fjord. The trees and mountains frame the scene nicely. The babbling stream lead the eye toward the ship nicely. The fine blue sky provides excellent contrast for the scene. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has fine sharpness.
jemaflor (74128) 2010-07-29 11:18
Lovely fjord and interesting shot with this big cruise ship, perfect light and colors, good white color with this strong light, well manged.
rodgerg (55767) 2010-08-01 1:14
Superb place, superb shot, superb bota. The white color - very well exposed - arise very well in the composition. A very good invitation for a travl in the fjord of Norway, a deam for me...
Have a nice Sunday,
fanni (13944) 2010-08-01 1:19
my very first impression is that the ship is strangely floating in the air as if it has no weight at all - the photo looks like a 3D image, by the way! I guess it's because of the difference: very bright ship (and its reflection in the water) and rather dark surroundings.
Very beautiful view; undoubtedly beautiful :)
macjake (45588) 2010-08-05 0:36
amazing sharpness with the large apperature of F4!
looks almost as if the cruise ship was placed here by photoshop! :)
seems like such a small body of water to hold such a large undercarriage of the ship!
excellent work here, with stunning lighting and sharpness
alin-m (3716) 2010-08-06 1:58
Amazing capture of this big ship that look like would navigate on a small river.
Beautiful picture with very good colors and details.
larsy (28) 2010-08-13 4:57
You had good luck with the weather. We will go there next wednesday on Hurtigruten.

Good evening Gunnar
This year I'm planning to be with my family in Norway, but no free time. Wanted to see fjord
It remains only look at the photo
LondonBoy (1282) 2011-09-08 11:50
Beautiful composition with deep greens, blues and greys so typical of "de Fjordar" :-)
The POV is quite intersitng as the flowing water makes the ship look even bigger and imposiing.
elenimavrandoni (9965) 2012-11-17 12:36
Great luck to be on the right spot, the right time but it takes a great photographer to be able to capture a panorama like this!A truly magnificent shot from every aspect! Congratulations for this one Gunnar!
ikeharel (44125) 2013-04-10 8:28
Taken a short stroll through your gallery Gunnar, and could not resist returning to this impressive shot: The ferry cruising the most known Fjord seen here with it's grandeur and contrast to green steep cliif and ridges alongside's.
Bautiful taken photo, exquisite clarity.
Robert1969 (6650) 2013-04-12 10:00
Original point of view: the river creates and
extra depth and makes the picture extra exciting.
Composition and light management are great.
rigoletto (32770) 2013-09-06 4:34
what a light and clarity here! and it is particularly astonishing to see how such a large ship travels along these narrow channels without runnig ashore. a proof about the depths of fjords.
