Art Nouveau architecture in Alesund, from the famed Askla viewpoint. 70mm. focal length. The patterns in the water were formed by increasing wind. A more typical wider POV versions will be added to workshop.

A very nice capture indeed! I like all the clear detail in the town - and the range of lights and colors is nice too. So much to take in - but it's pleasantly composed and good to look at.
Cheers,

Tan,
This is such a wonderful view of the city by the sea. It is so much details are still visible for a night shot. All the color of city lights are just so brilliant and dreamlike quality. So bonuses in the workshop, how cool is that, buy one get two for free. Yoohoo! I have some much fun going through your gallery. Thanks so much, it like around the world in just 1/2 and hour. You have my utmost admiration.

Hi Tan, I had a look at your other two versions, if we were to vote, I'd go for this one. Since it's not a vote and you get to chose the main post, then I'll just agree with your choice.
It's the light and the colour of course, that work here. Blue hour with incandescent gold make a great combination. Even though this isn't the wider point of view, we still have a good "feel" for the city. The buildings are in good sharp focus with great clarity throughout, even your wind patterns look good.
Thanks, John

Hi Tan,
Both WS version are the ones we all know from Alesund and is absolute a picture i would like to have in my collection. Here we see Alesund from a different pov and have to admit i also like this approach. Light is very nice all spreaded over the houses with high detail...good exposure.

Hello Tan,
The wide angle view of this city is very pretty. The night lights of the city enhance the architecture very nicely. It is a beautiful setting for this interesting city. The workshop images give us a nice daylight perspective with more details. Very well composed picture Tan.

Hej Kaptain,
The patters on the water are interesting for they give the impression it's floating ice and fit to the cold norway cliche, for the rest the characteristics of the captain's pics are present, up to the focal length used that's a bit original but I like the framing.
Have a nice week end JY

Hi Tan,
Very much the same style as vernazza shot, but with more details. Tele was a good choice. It's peaceful there, even with 3 seconds nothing seems to be moving. The church is a good main focal point.

These pictures make me regret I didn't make it as far as Alesund during my visit to Norway this summer... All three are really great, in the main post the water patterns look like ice...:)
Cheers

PS About Absurdistan - did you know that there is a film based on this book and it was shot in Azerbaijan (in Lahic, to be correct, it is another ancient village there)

Tan,
it is really quite funny to compare this post with the WS's. It seems to me that you spend the night at this POV and placed your tripod there without moving it for the comparison between blue hour and early morning. Personally I prefer the main post. The WS's are the typical wide-angle approach.

Tan,
This is a great blue hour shot of Alesund. Your composition is great showing the Art Nouveau district as well as the harbor. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail The spotlighting on the church is great making it a major point of interest. Your WS shots are nice as well, I have a couple of shots from the same POV Alesund from Mt Askla
Thanks for these great memories of Alesund!

Asa

What a moment Tan. I was there just a year ago, and the sky was so ugly that made impossible a photo like this one, althoug Norway have one of the most beautifull lands I´ve ever visited, and you portrait this beauty here beautifully. Thanks.

J'aime beaucoup cette petite ville norvégienne .Les lumières apportent un intérêt supplémentaire à l'image et donnent presque l'impression que l'on regarde une maquette. Belle photo!Les deux WS sont très beaux également.

hi Tan
Great metering of 3s to get this exposure and sharp image of urban scape, nicely composed in this point of view. Really nice lights springing up everywhere. Perhaps I would take out the small bit of sky altogether.

Hi Tan,
I think your association with Art Nouveau is quiet correct here. The picture is an amazing patch work of beautiful blue tones and yellow figures.
A great artistic presentation.

Hi Tan
As the picture unfolded (opened) from the top down, the beauty began to unravel...the cluster of houses in the bottom half, the mix of artificial light with the muted natural colours...excellent. I thought those were ice on the water in the centre of the frame, but in your thread with Chris you said they were not...then what are these white patches?
Best Regards
Angshu

Hello Tan!
Today I've been commenting on several nightshots! Then, I've found yours and it couldn't be different! I just love it!
Sharpness, lights, shadows, colors, POV... for me nothing is wrong, everything's so nice!
It was very cold there, wasn't it?!
We're having cold weather these days down here in southern Brazil, but not a single bit close to what they have in Norway!
TFS - Congratulations!
Greetings from Brazil,
