Photographer’s Note
The beauty of an elk
I have not been so often up to my mountain place this summer. Still I have this capture of the young elk, probably 2-3 years and sure worth sharing at TE.
So good being close to these huge wild animals, too bad that maybe he will be one of the 40.000 that will meet their destiny in the coming hunting season. This only in our little country. (In the Nordic countries there is app. 500.000 elks in all)
It is a fact that animals are a part of man’s food chain. Easy to forget when seeing wild animals in a setting like this.
Another good thing then only hunting with a camera ;-)

How close can you get Mr. Johanson?? :DD
Excellent sharpness of this beautiful member of mother nature.
Though it has a Mona Lisa smile on its face, the eyes are filled with melancholy.
I loved it :)

Hello Jack,
Une très bonne netteté sur cet élan ! Je n'ai pas l'habitude de voir de tels animaux par chez nous ! L'image est spécial mais assez plaisante ! Merci pour le partage !

Hair sharp!! A pensive elk at the receiving end of your lens! Good work Jack and an equally good note.

Hi Jack. Very nice one this up-close and personal portrait of the elk (moose). A good study of the alert and intelligent animal, well shown in the natural habitat and with a gently-dosed DOF. The details in the elk's coat are very crisp and vivid-looking.

I once saw elk from afar and was fascinated by their enormous bulk. They look rather scary. You must have shot it from quite a close range, given your lens. Nice portrait, sharp and clear. Congrats for your courage as well. )))

Hi Jack,
This image .. with that lens??? could you feel his breath? Wonderful detail and expression .. he really contrasts well with the beautiful background .. you have a wonderful sense of three dimensional space here ..
Something I would love to see some research on is how it came to be what you in Europe call an Elk we in North America call a Moose .. and what we call an Elk is much closer related to the Red Deer?? .. never ending source of confusion ..
again beautiful image.
what next .. Elephants????? Mammoth?????
take care,
John

Hi Jack,
So, here is what looks like a elk seen very closely. The famous elk which we hoped to see so much near your cottage last year ! Nice composition and good POV. Excellent sharpness which permits to appreciate all details. We even can see you in its eyes. Yes, I'm sure it's you ;-)
In spite of the close-up, the background locates it in its environment.
Beautiful animalist photo,
France
