Photographer’s Note
First snow - first Nikon D90
Oct. 29th. and the first snow of the season has falled through the night up here in the north.
And also, for me, first posting from my new Nikon D90.
Just got to have it after reading this review:
http://yourphotoarchive.com/laugh.htm
..almost as fun as a thread I saw at TE about this camera where more than one said: "I will never buy that camera as it also have an option for making video. My oh my.. Probably the same guys who said (some years ago): I'll never have one of those digital cameras and I'll never read an e-book and I'll never have a mobile phone with a camera ...
..ehh.. and yes there is a test video, 19 sec. right here
(recommended: High Quality Version) >>
Have a fine day out there ;-)

Congrats on the new Nikon and enjoy.
The dusting of the white fluffy stuff looks wonderful and magical. The composition is simple and excellent and the red house is a nice contrast to otherwise cold tones.
Cheers and mange takk.

Very simple and with a special atmosphere. I like this composition, with the color of the house which gives a nice contrast to the picture.

Hello Jack! Oh yes, I can smell it, and on a little higher grounds than Zurich it has snowed overnight :) I like snow photos, they belong to my favorites and I have been in the snow two weeks ago but pretty high up, over 2000 meters. Lovely photo almost "white in white" with the orange house giving a little contrast. Enjoy your new camera ... it is so much fun to try out and see what it can. Best regards, Barbara.

Hallo Jack!
A wonderful atmospheric and well balanced picture - a minimalistic one. One nearly can feel cold and humidity. Here snow is announced for tomorrow.
Greetings from rather cold but sunny Westphalia!

Great atmosphere!! It really looks like winter, especially the sky. I love the contrast with the tree and the fact that it still has its leaves! Great brownish colors.

Hi Jack,
I always like the simple imagery like this. The minimalism strengthens the composition for me. I'm wondering if this isn't a tiny bit under-exposed though and whether it might have been better to give that tree a bit more room away from the bottom?
Congrats on the new camera. I'm sure you'll surely get the best from it.
Cheers!

Hi Jack
welcome back to Nikon :)
Grey atmosphere, I'm wondering why you did not include a bit more foreground under the tree.

Hi Jack,
There is something minimalistically charming on the grey days of late autumn in the Nordic countries. That feeling is well caught on this one. At least it's better than without snow. And gives nice feeling of change when the first snow comes. But when the snow comes and goes for months and darkness just goes on it's no fun anymore.

YES !!!
Finally in the stores...YES !!!
But...
Some disappointments as well...
It doesn't have a fountain...
No folding down seats
The woofer is actually not a woofer but a broken down ( and never being repaired) - the tweeter.
The option of convenient electrical hook ups to the car battery ( much stronger shock, mind you !!!) - is somehow missed in this otherwise excellent camera.
That convenient 3-minutes timer ( soft egg boiling feature ) - just about perfect.
Your photo, Jack..?
Only with D90 you can achieve such splendid results...You can actually SEE everything what's in the photo...
Amazing...
The house, the tree, the meadow, the air in between...
Unique... Very unique, jrj
A house, a tree and the air in between...
Who could have thought of such (never seen before ) composition...?
NIKON rocks, baby... NIKON rules...!!!
................
Did you use the film option in it, or just regular brushes and pencils ?
Love it, man.
Sure...The snow suppose to be blue, but pink magenta is OK with me as well..

Hi Jack.
The atmosphere...excellent. The tree and the houses in the middle of the snow are lovely.
What about the D90? I'm thinking to buy it....

What a mood...I like your fotka. George has been already here, so I do not fear anymore:)). Truly, from time to time an escape from all those "people":D.
I simply enjoy the "simplicity" here, of a house, a tree, a sky, some snow, the silent feeling... I would have liked a tiny bit of ground below the tree. Compliments about your new camera (although I know nothing about it).

Hello Jack
Amicalement

Hi Jack
Very good choice. I had a D80 and and I own also the universal 18-200 VR. I sold my D80 mainly because it had not focus control and light measurement with my old AiS lenses. The 18-200 is very good and the range is amazing. It's possible to use this lens, body combination like a bridge camera but with a better framing capacity and better reactivity. Based on the D300 without the magnesium body and without moisture protection, the D90 is really the good choice. Of course the D3 is better but the price and the weight is not the same. For the picture it's uncommon to see snow and leaves on the trees.
Sorry for you meeting. As I have to go to Lyon just before, I cant go to Perpignan. Sorry ma friend...
Cheers
JP

Hei Jack,
Wonderful minimalistic composition. I love the atmosphere and soft light and colours. The inclusion of the tree with still green leaves tells us that this is the first snow. A really great job. TFS and have a nice evening!

Hi Jack,
Congratulations with your new toy, we are now waiting for a new site...'Trekvideo'???
Good shot, simple but well composed.
I really hesitated to buy a Nikon, but the fact that I have some lenses for Sony and a compatible flash made me buy the Sony A-900. It is frustrating that there are no full frame lenses (Zeiss) available in Luxemburg. I ordered one and am waiting for it to arrive.
Greetings from ice-cold Luxemburg.

Hello Jack
congratulations for your new purchase the D90 and of course some of envy.
I have the Nihon D70 and D80 and before moving to this new model hope to be able to sell the D70 although it gave me great satisfaction.
Your first shot is very nice and interesting for the depth of field, it would be interesting to see the same shot with the D70 to see the differences in contrast.
I wait for other your posts for a final assessment.
Best regards
Mario

A beautifully composed winter landscape Jack. A strak composition with atmosphere.
I also have just ventured up to the D90 and just posted my first. I am eager to get out in Washington DC shooting.
Have fun with your new toy!
