Photographer’s Note
This was taken at Farmhamna, Spitsbergen at approximately 11pm. It is the end of summer, and the sun already disappears behind the horizon for a few hours. Temperature just below zero and a little wind. We are walking a mile on the grounds next to our skipper's cottage. He tells us, how he built it and how he spent a polar winter here. Of course, there was that polar bear behind the cottage one day. "I jumped up, and the bear jumped up", he said. No bears when we visited, fortunately! He wanted to take his family here for summer 2003. I am not actually sure he did. A summer in a location like this? Would you do that? Would you take your 10 year old kid there? He must be really a special person!

Lovely shot. It really shows the desoluteness of Spitsbergen. The lone person and boat and the huge space. Nice colors and the panorama cropping works very well. I get the feeling that this picture is not quite straight, I would like to rotate it ever so slightly CCW too feel completely at peace.
I would definately bring my 10 year old kid here one summer, if I had one :)

I'll say it again, LOVELY. Beautiful composition. It's a little bit tilted and sharp (the edges of the mountain). Aside from that, it's simply lovely.

A wonderful place, where one can be close to God in so many ways. The image is great and I concur, it is but one lifeline to have a boat and a friend, both are required. Good composition, peaceful feeling and image. The anwers to your questions would be yes on both counts.
