Midnight arrival
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The southbound coastal steamer "M/S Nordnorge" arrives at Bodø harbour at 01.30 at night, after a four hour crossing of the Vestfjord from Stamsund, Lofoten.
This picture was taken facing north-east, from Nyholmen Skandse, an early 17th century coastal fortress built at the entrance to Bodø Harbour to defend the local trading post, then called Hundholmen, which eventually grew into the small city Bodø.
The local midnight sun season ended less than a month before this picture was taken, which means the sun makes a short dip beneath the horizon to the north, before it starts rising again. When this was taken, the sun had barely started rising.
No editing, appart from some slight cropping.

Very clear photo, congratulations.
Hei Lars,
The light is wonderful, the calmness of the sea adds to the beauty!
It is a very well composed image, marked by this special Northern summer atmosphere...
Great colours and fine details!

I can image the quiet, the silence of these northern nights, but now I can also see and admire evrything.
Thank's for share Lars!
Regards, Freddy
Hi Lars. I love this image, and to think it was taken in the middle of the night is quite amazing for someone who has not experienced the midnight sun. Composition, colour, POV, all excellent. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hei Lars,
Very peacefull : the sea, the light !! and the landscape is magnificent... as all along the hurtigruten line.
Your composition is very well done.
I sailed on board MS Nordnorge twice : hurtigruten line and Antarctica / Patagonia.
Paul
Hi there!
Very good composition and colours in this image. The line of mountains on the horizon looks just great. As well as the ship which is a perfect accent here.
