Photographer’s Note

The so called "coastal steamer" Hurtigruten is a wonderful way of seeing Norway from the sea, even if it can be a bit too boring after a day or two.
For many small villages along the coast, it once was the only contact with the rest of the country. Now it is used more as a cruise than a normal means of transport from a place to another.

Personally, I used it both for transport and for the views it offers, but only for a day and a half, from Honningsvaag (North Cape) to the Vesteralen islands.
I was quite lucky because after a few cloudy hours, the sun shone for the whole day and I was able to see the beauty of the area in full.

This is the coast between Oksfjord and Skjervoy (I can tell because of the time of the photo and the timetable of the boat stops :P ). You can see a glacier on the mountains.

These places really gave me the feeling of the strenght of nature. The big, snow covered mountains falling down directly into the sea, and the tiny villages under them that look even smaller in comparison, were a sight I'll never easily forget. Magnificent and grand are just a couple of adjectives that come to my mind. The photo can't really do justice!! :)
