Hiding from the Storm Photo

Photographer’s Note

A storm was brewing when we were on our way to the Nordkapp. Even offshore trawlers were seeking the safety of the Porsangen, the fjord east of the Nordkapp.

This shot was taken about 10km west of Honningsvaag, shortly after the Nordkapptunnelen (6870m long and descending 212m below sea level!). The island to the right is most probably called Altesula.

Traveling northern Norway in September may be a bit late. The advantages vs. summer are:
- EMPTY landscapes, streets, hotels
- great light due to low angle sunlight during the whole day
- spectacular (some may call it downright ugly) weather swings
No disadvantages as we didn't care about closed tourist traps and didn't hike or go by bike (as some other poor fellas we've met).

Simply but good shot. The sun between the clouds, the islands, some boats.. and storm´s grey colour. Good composition.

I like this almost B&W picture. It shows how small we are compared to the mighty sea. The composition is just great, and divides the picture into 3 parts. Without the boats, the picture would have been just good, now it is great!
