Bouvigne, waiting and waiting on the sun Photo

Photographer’s Note

surrounded by a wide moat, stands at the edge of the graceful Mastbos. The castle is first mentioned in documents dated 1554. In 1614 it was converted into a hunting lodge. Kasteel Bouvigne borders on a beautiful garden. Nothing is known of landscape gardening in the16th century. The present garden is open to the public and integrates French, German and English styles of the 20th century. Bouvigne castle is a charming building outside Breda, in the Mastbos forest. Its present look dates mainly from the 17th century. For a long time, the princes of Orange used it as their summer house. The castle, that stands in the water, was built in a typical renaissance style. Its beautiful gardens are open to the public.

For this one I must wait for the sunlight, but I must say, when the light is there you have mosly a better photo. I hope you like it,

Het vierkante kasteeltje, net uit het midden in de foto is mooi getroffen. Het vierkante formaat van de foto daarbij goed gekozen.
Mooie reflectie en de omkadering door de bomen en takken werkt sterk in de compositie.

Avond Jaap,
Jij had tenminste nog fraai weer, hier is het al dagen bewolkt en grijs, absoluut geen fotoweer.
Kasteeltje is erg mooi gekaderd met die natuurlijke begroeiing, ook de reflectie zelf zit prima in het kader. Lucht is wat saai, blauw had misschien nog wat verder doorgedrukt mogen worden, en wellicht een tikje meer contrast op het kasteeltje, maar dat zijn kleine details, de algehele impressie is zeer goed.

It was worth of waiting! The result is another great shot of a castle at the water front. I like the composition with the tree branches at the top and the plants in the foreground forming a frame. The light is pleasant and the colours are very beautiful and natural. The calm water with most beautiful reflections create a tranquil atmosphere. Excellent!

It was certainly worth the wait to get better light on the castle and its beautiful reflection. I like the way you have used the foliage in almost all 4 corners to create an original frame. The V shape of the blue sky between the clouds adds a great deal to the success of the composition as it seems to point out the castle.

Men spreekt soms van een spiegelbeeld, wel hier hebben we er eentje zoals het boekje ons voorschrijft.
Wanneer men deze locatie aandoet met een windstille dag, dan moet men niet meer twijfelen, om een foto te nemen, ik zou ook geneigd zijn om een week of twee te wachten, dit voor de herfst kleuren, maar dan wordt het niet meer stil en foetsie is de mooie foto.
Prachtig samengesteld Jaap, goede realistische kleuren, een topper zonder meer best vriend! Bedankt.

Hello Jaap,
Your patience waiting for the sun paid off as it really enhances the colours and early autumn atmosphere in this picture. Although I'm not generally fond of foliage appearing from the top of the frame it works well here, probably because it is balanced by the leaves at the bottom and frames the building and lake nicely. The double-V of the foliage creates strong lines running from the corners and converging on the building.

What I like in the play of the reflections it is when this one is much more intense at the level of colors, contrasts and depictions than reality which it reflects...

It is the case here, and you knew how to marvelously return these subtle nuances and these depictions of warm tones, in spite of a whimsical sky.

When I have watched at this miniature already I have known that it was your photo.
The setting is perfect, the castle and its reflections on the water, surrounded with a nice vegetation they have a great aesthetic level, and the light and the colors are very well managed.
I like the effect of horizontal symmetry that has the image thanks to the reflections.

In augustus ben ik daar nog voorbij gefietst (en heb er een paar foto's genomen). Maar jammer genoeg was het een regenachtige dag met minder goed licht. Mooie reflecties in het water, en absoluut het wachten waard. TFS en prettige dag nog.

This is a fantastic shot of this fine castle. Your composition is great using the reflection to create depth and balance. he surrounding tree limbs frame the shot beautifully helping to focus our attention to the castle. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The bridge provides a nice diagonal that leads the eye into to shot.
